I have disabled it via vLite in setup, but there are many ways:

Start - Run - msconfig - Tools - Disable UAC - Launch - Reboot.

If needed, it can be only partially disabled via security policies:

Start - Run - secpol.msc (Ultimate only) - or - mmc (all versions).

Tom,

I was working with my software/networking guru last night and I think we got it,

using a formula we found elsewhere in this very forum.

I also have a shopping list of registry tweaks that greatly speed up XP and we

were going through those to see what ones would apply to Vista and what NOT.

The best ones still applied and I've got Vista prettywell tweaked out for increased

performance. I keep them all in a .reg script, so applying them is a snap. :thumbup

Thanks again for your quick response.

Cheers Mate!

Regarding item 2 in your problem list: Open IE to any page, MSN will do. Now type the address for the home page you want to use into the address bar. Once you are on the page click Tools/Internet Options/Use Current/Apply. That will set the homepage you want as the default :sneaky:

found the cause of my Dreamweaver & Flash player install problems..

Mcafee Viruscan enteprise 8.5i if installed with maximum protection stops dll & exe files from being moved/extraceted etc. I found it stops programs from installing & from devices installing from drivers or from microsoft drivers as it restricts dll movment.

make sure if you have this mcafee install with standard protection.
