Has anyone found a website that fully explains the difference in licensing between the boxed version you'd pick up in the store, and the "for system builders" version found on Newegg?

I want to buy this for one of my workstations but I'm going to be upgrading it heavily soon and will need to move Vista... is there a 6 month window like there is for Windows XP activation?

From what I know, here are the differences:

1) You may install it on one computer, and it is tied to that same computer forever.

2) It has to be purchased with a hardware component. Just buy a $5 mouse and throw it away to satisfy this.

... also OEM (aka "For system builders")... Microsoft assumes that you know what you are doing, so if you call them for support they will try to charge you... But really people... how many time have YOU called Microsoft for a problem?!?!? None! They dont know anything anyways. However, there is no difference in the software or features them self. So, save yourself some money and get OEM :)

For the first time ever, I have actually found something sold in

the UK for far cheaper than the US - Windows Vista Ultimate

and no, this is not the Upgrade its the full one for what amounts

to about $265 (not $400 like in the US)...............

WINDOWS-KEY IS DISPLAYED ON OUTER PACKAGING, PLEASE KEEP SAFE

Gotta love the way they just broadcast this so anyone can go in a shop and

take a picture of the serial. You know whats REALLY funny about this,

I doubt it is even illegal - because you're not actually stealing anything and

you cannot (according to the "Digital Millennium Copyright Act") hold any

copyright to a random sequence of numbers and letters - this is how people

can sell XP keys and get away with it.

Where theres a will theres a way.

Actually the OEM copies have the COA sticker on the outside of the DVD case but it is covered in a cardboard sleeve which is sealed. The only way to access the COA is by removing the cardboard sleeve and by doing so they are no longer allowed to sell this item. There is no legal way to purchase a new copy of Vista which someone else (outside of MS) could have seen the COA.
