intermittent graphics failure

Hello,

I am getting intermittent graphics output failure on my PC:

AMD Athlon Xp 2400

1GB DDR RAM

ATI Radeon 7500

Sometimes I get graphics, sometimes not. It seems random.

I do not get any system "beeps" or any warnings.

This is a recent problem, the PC has served me well for 3+ years.

The graphics card is well-seated in its slot.

The monitor is OK, as it works fine with an old G4 powermac, which I am now using to post this.

Any ideas?

Help!

Could be a hardware issue; PSU, mobo, or the card itself.

Recent driver downgrade/upgrade? Try reinstalling the drivers?

Is it overheating? Do you have good cable arrangment to allow good airflow in your case? Perhaps time to use compressed air to clean out the dust? (Take it outside to do this!)

What specifically do you mean by "graphics"? When does it start happening? In Windows or within a game? What kind of game? No error message at all? Be sure to check C:\WINDOWS\DirectX.log and/or the Event Viewer. (Start > Run > "eventvwr" (without quotations).

thanx for reply.

When I power up the PC, the PC lights (LEDs) come on & the PC powers up like usual, but there is NO signal to the monitor.

I have not changed any drivers recently.

I might have an old graphics card lying around, I could try installing that & see what happens.

i have similar problems with the card i'm using now, but it just turns out the bracket was put on in a very strange manner, so if you move the case the wrong way it comes out of the slot just enough to not make contact...check how its seated, theres no issue there, it may be dead or dying.

Graphics card update:

I have replaced the suspect card (Radeon 7500) & replaced it.

The new card works a treat & I have had no recurrence of the intermittent

failure problem :)

New PC spec:

AMD Athlon XP 2400

1GB DDR RAM

ATI Fire GL2 64MB graphics card

The only slight problem is that the GL2, an impressive bit of "iron", is not so good for games.....
