CharlesF Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Hi MDGx,big mess with the uninstall of 98MP10.EXE! It has deleted me a few files instead of restoring them (I had choosen 'Restore WMP9' and NOT 'Delete WMP9' in the control panel).I had to reinstall manually a few things in order to make Windows works (for instance BROWSELC.DLL, CABINET.DLL, MSHTML.TLB). Pls PM me if you translate those 2 files, and I'll re-package them with the translated texts + the rest, so we can have a French 98MP10. I have PM'ed you a few french packages as said.Enjoy.CharlesF.

Please test 98MP10 again at your convenience:http://www.mdgx.com/98mp10/98MP10.EXEI am going to compile an Iexpress exe installer for the French 98MP10 soon.I have sent u a PM with a request if u could pls translate those 2 text files into French. Tx in advance.1 of those texts is the ReadMe for 98MP10.Best,MDGx

I only provided links to them. You may want to ask him about the newer ADVPACK.DLL, maybe he has experience using it.HTH

I'm just confused about which version to use because Iinstall 98MP10 last, and it overrides the newer version from 98 SE SP3 Beta 4.

I'm just confused about which version to use because Iinstall 98MP10 last, and it overrides the newer version from 98 SE SP3 Beta 4.I noticed that MD's IE6 SP1 Component Update pack installs ADVPACK.DLL 6.0.2900.2180 from XP SP2.I used to back-date to 6.00.2800.1106 from XP SP1, but in the end just left the XP SP2 version. It's been on my PC for some time now and seems to work okay...
MDGx Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 My 2 ¢...From what I recall, ADVPACK.DLL from XP SP1 is the last 6.0 SP1 build, because XP SP1 still supported (and installed) Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1. Therefore that advpack API was (still) built for 6.0 SP1.All advpack 6.0.2900.xxxx builds are newer, but meant only for IE 6.0 SP2, which is installed only by XP SP2 and by XP SP3 [and also 2003 Server SP1 + SP2, and XP SP2 64-bit (64-bit code)]. 6.0 SP2 code is specific only to XP/2003 OSes, therefore newer advpack API is specific to IE 6.0 SP2 only.In conclusion, I don't see the advantage of using any advpack.dll newer than 6.0 SP1 with 98/98SE/ME OSes, which do not support IE 6.0 SP2.To my knowledge newest 6.0 SP1 advpack.dll build is 6.0.2800.1106 (installed by IE 6.0 SP1 + XP SP1).If anyone knows of a newer 6.0.2800.xxxx ADVPACK.DLL build, please post here the link, and I'll add it to 98MP10.Edit:XP SP3 installs IE 6.0 SP3.HTHP.S.:I'm on a "loaner" laptop at the moment, my PC is broken. So I can't be too active in the forums right now. I'll be back "full time" when I fix my PC [new mobo is on the way].Best,MDGx

Example...I've compiled an EXE which installs File Manager (FM) 32-bit from NT4 [+ 2 essential add-ons + customizations] on 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/7:http://www.mdgx.com/xptoy.htm#FMNTIf any1 wishes and got some free time, please test it out, and let me know if/how it works, or if any1 likes the idea of using FM in XP/Vista/7.HTH

MDGx Posted September 18, 2010 Author Posted September 18, 2010 ?You're probably asking why I posted those commands twice...1. C:\WINDOWS [or your custom path if different] must be typed as actual path name in the Run... box [start menu].The Run... box does not support environment variables. ;-(2. You can type environment variables [like %windir%] in a DOS box.DOX boxes/sessions/windows support environment variables.Or even easier...create a DOS batch file with those lines [the ones from the DOS box] to do this every time you install/upgrade WMP/MPC/similar:@echo off%windir%\INF\UNREGMP2.EXE /RegUniv%windir%\INF\UNREGMP2.EXE /UpdateWMPREGSVR32.EXE /S %windir%\SYSTEM\WMV8DS32.AXREGSVR32.EXE /S %windir%\SYSTEM\WMVDS32.AXREGSVR32.EXE /S %windir%\SYSTEM\WMADMOD.DLLREGSVR32.EXE /S %windir%\SYSTEM\WMSDMOD.DLLREGSVR32.EXE /S %windir%\SYSTEM\WMVDMOD.DLLclsexitHTH
