Do WMPNS.DLL 9.0.0.4503 fix the MP817885?

also this file is located in the WMP folder & system folder

which one should i delete?

To my knowledge all 817885 fixes [official and unofficial] install older WMPNS.DLL 9.0.0.3250 (or even older, depending on WMP release).

Do you know which fix installs WMPNS.DLL 9.0.0.4503 ?

Please post link here.

Thanks.

Ok, I got it... better later than never ... WMPNS.DLL 9.0.0.4503 comes from XP SP3.

But I have no idea what bugs have been fixed in this release, because I can't find documentation on this subject.

Why there are 2 copies [of the same file] installed in 2 different dirs:

%windir%\system

and

C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player

that's because some MS update I installed way back [?] did that, so I presumed they must have had a reason.

I have a question about uninstalling DRM: it works if I use WMVCORE.DLL version 9.00.00.2980 or 9.00.00.3001 (from Windows Media Update 816044). With version 9.00.00.3355 it does not work.

What version of WMVCORE.DLL is recommended for using WMP without DRM?

On the other hand, I've been using the 6.0.2900.2180 builds of BROWSEWM.DLL SHDOCLC.DLL and SHFOLDER.DLL for about a fortnight now, with no apparent problems happening so far. However, if I ever find any issues with any of them I'll sure post about them.

Are they still going strong?

I'm still using BROWSEWM.DLL 6.0.2900.2180

I've used the other two up to December 2008 with no issues.

Then I've downgraded them in the process of trying to catch an elusive bug that turned out to be related to SHDOCVW.DLL 6.0.2800.1923 (now long superceeded) and never went back.

At the moment I'm using SHDOCLC.DLL 6.0.2800.1443 and SHFOLDER.DLL 6.0.2800.1106.

But I have no evidence that any of the three files ever did cause any issue.

You might perhaps test them in your machine for sometime. AFAIK, it's quite safe.

The newer Win XP SP3 versions of these three files I didn't test, though, so I don't know whether they work or not.

Thanks for the bug report.

I don't have Win98/98SE/ME installed on my PC presently, so I can't test, but I plan on doing this in the near future.

I'll post here if I have any results.

Anyone tested this?

Yeppers...

After uninstalling DRM (all it's files and registry entries), you need to place DRMCLIEN.DLL back into your WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder...

DRMCLIEN.DLL does not need to be registered... it just needs to be there... as WMVCORE.DLL has a "dependency" on DRMCLIEN.DLL, and will not function correctly without it...

Where did you get WMVCORE.DLL 9.0.0.4503 + DRMCLIEN.DLL 9.0.0.4503 from?

Can you please post here the links to MS hotfixes or PM me with the files [so I can add them to 98MP10]?

Thanks a lot for your time.

Best wishes.

After uninstalling DRM (all it's files and registry entries), you need to place DRMCLIEN.DLL back into your WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder...

But older versions of wmvcore.dll work without drmclien.dll (in this versions drmclien.dll is delay-load dependency module) !!!

Then you should stick with the latest version of WMVCORE.DLL that works for you (without a dependency on DRMCLIEN.DLL)...

But, as I stated above, it's OK to use the newest version... you are still removing DRM (and all it's files / registry entries)...

DRM will not function even if DRMCLIEN.DLL is in your SYSTEM folder...

DRMCLIEN.DLL has been unregistered... and all other DRM files and registry entries are gone...

Why?

As I stated above...

You are still removing DRM (and almost all it's files / registry entries)...

DRM will not function even if DRMCLIEN.DLL is in your SYSTEM folder...

DRMCLIEN.DLL has been unregistered... and all other DRM files and registry entries are gone...

DRM will not function even if DRMCLIEN.DLL is in your SYSTEM folder...
I want to not include any DRM files in codec pack.

Then you should stick with the last version of WMVCORE.DLL that works for you (without a dependency on DRMCLIEN.DLL)...
