Building My Own

Since this is my first build I will need all the help I can get. I have done a lot of research, including here, but it is very confusing to the novice builder. Most of what I find here and at other sites lean toward the gamer. Since I am not a gamer, I find myself a little handicapped in putting this together. Not being a gamer, I do not plan to overclock.

I will use the computer for internet, email, recording TV movies, photo storage, etc. I also a download a lot of music and applications.

Any recommendations will be appreciated. Will all this work together compatibly?

I am looking to cut the price down a little:

1. Is there a cheaper, as good, monitor?

2. Could I do better with memory?

3. Recommend a good CD/DVD Rom?

4. Keyboard & mouse-good choice?

5. I have a couple of external USB harddrives for storage. The 80 GB drive is for Vista Ultimate and programs.

6. Not a gamer, but will do video recording. Is the Video card ok to do?

7. Anything else?

There all very good parts, Its going to be a really nice system, but you can take one thing off and that would be the Anti Static wrist strap, you really don't need that, I been building systems for years and i never used them...

My two cents...

Forget about the wrist wrap. All you need is to touch the case to remove any possible static. Unless you're building your computer on shaggy carpet, it's unlikely to be an issue.

I would personally suggest a Pioneer DVR-111D as your DVD-/+RW, but that's just my opinion.

The only thing I see missing is the card to do TV Recording.

The PVR-500 has two different tuners built in (Record 1 channel while watching a different). The PVR 150 is a good one also, but only allows for one channel record and viewing.

It's very likely that this one will, however. I will add it to the mix. Thanks. I have a MyHD card in my current XP system.

I personally go for OCZ myself.

For what you are planning to use the system for, 1g would be more than fine. 2g is a good chunk of memory, and even more gamers don't have 2g.

Funny thing is, I have one too and have never had a problem with it. So, while I'm sure the Pioneer is very good, I'll stick with my tried and proven Lite-on. Thanks for the nudge.

I think we are getting pretty close with these parts. Thanks to all.

However, if I could impose on you folks once more, would someone step in and recommend a replacement for the Monitor I chose? That monitor, I'm told, is very good, but pricey. Is there a comparable one a little cheaper? What are you satisfied with?

Also, there are so many keyboards and mice that it is hard to choose. What works best for you?

Thanks, I'll go to NE to find it. There are a few choices to pick from. How about that $1600 deal. lol

Which one do you have? Seems that I will have to check if video card will support. Be back later.
