Has anyone got winamp to silent install?

Just wondering if anyone has got winamp to silent install without bringing up the menu after the install has finished? I can get around this slightly by having winamp install last and while the shutdown counts down I can enter the info but I might not always be at the pc :)

Any idea's would be great! :rolleyes:

I have seen that others here install and then kill the process once the actual install is over. I prefer the simple method: I just copy all the winamp files and shortcuts to the target machine, then run a .reg file for creating the file associations. All winamp settings are in it's .ini file. (I wish they were all like this ...)

Would you mind posting said reg file? Right now my batch sets the file associations via cmd line...

I install to C:\Software\MP3Tools\Winamp\. Adjust to fit your path. I also get rid of WMP options first, as such

;Remove WMP Right Click Options (Queue-it-up, etc.)
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{CE3FB1D1-02AE-4a5f-A6E9-D9F1B4073E6C}]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{F1B9284F-E9DC-4e68-9D7E-42362A59F0FD}]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{8DD448E6-C188-4aed-AF92-44956194EB1F}]

That's why the regfile includes WMP options. The MP3 files are reverted to their old style icons (blue speaker), and playlists have a winamp icon.

My rule of thumb: If you don't need to use an installer, don't.

PS: Install winamp on a seperate pc, add all your skins and components, define your preferences, and include them in the new install, so as to do the whole kit'n'kaboodle at once.

  • 5 years later...

i simply made my own addon with putting the winamp5541_pro_all.exe in a folder named svcpack

and in ENTRIES_winamp5541_pro_all.ini in the parent directory I have the following:

[general]
builddate=2009.04.27
description=Visit http://www.winamp.com/ for updates.
language=Language Neutral
title=Winamp Installer
version=5.54 Build 2189
website=http://www.winamp.com

[EditFile]
I386\SVCPACK.INF,SetupHotfixesToRun,AddProgram

[AddProgram]
winamp5541_pro_all.exe /S

that worked for me. i tested winamp5541_pro_all.exe /S on the command line before I made the addon.

  • 2 weeks later...

hi everyone i believe this is my first post here

following is a part of what i discovered about winamp

winamp can be made silent and portable

i made a silent install of the lite version - under 2mb

this is how:

install it (i used c:\program files)

goto install folder (mine is c:\program files\winamp) & open paths.ini with notepad

and make it look like this

[Winamp]
inidir=c:\Program Files\winamp\ini\

if you want to make it portable make paths.ini look like this

[Winamp]
inidir=ini\

this tells winamp were to look for & create settings files

start winamp (this will create the settings files in the ini subfolder, from wich only winamp.ini is required to bypass the annoying "sending info" or whatever with the skip button)

set your prefferences, and clos winamp

aditionally if you want file associations (i only kept file associations for mp3) use the below reg file

this is an alternative filetype registration i dont know where i found it :) but it works instantly

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\winamp.exe]
"NoOpenWith"=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\winamp.exe\shell]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\winamp.exe\shell\open]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\winamp.exe\shell\open\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\winamp\\winamp.exe\" \"%1\""

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.mp3]
"Application"="winamp.exe"

now you can pack the winamp folder in a sfx archive ...

i can post the silent installer i made if required and if its ok with the forum and/or winamp policy
