Boot from CD ROM: ... the waiting game

So I ran nLite and it seemed to work until the point where I tested it by booting from the CD. When the system showed "Boot from CDROM:" .... it just stuck there. Got a system hang and nothing. I tried to re-burn the CD at a slower speed, but still no go. I also tried to create the ISO first, then burn after. Then ISO first, unzip with WinRAR, burn directly with my own CD burning program. Can anyone provide some guidance as to a reason why it won't boot?

have you tried testing it in a VPC? that screen should only appear for about 5 seconds, a crucial part of the loader for windows may be gone, you may have to start all over. could you post your last session?

As for the previous session, I removed a whole mess of stuff (I normally would use LitePC to remove them but decided to remove them here... maybe that made the difference)

it sounds like the cd's are not being read..

so either the cd's are unreadable, ie need to be burn't slower, on decent new disks,

or your dvd drive is up the creek and losing it's paddle.

I've got two drives that are really, really fussy, and often only read disks when you hit the drive on the top!

I'd recommend getting some good quality disks if you're using a cheap cake of cdr's.. I've come to expect 30% of cheap cake cd's not to be bootable/last more than a week or two and then become to easily scratched

Have you tried booting that computer with an other (known bootable) Cd ? Or booting an other computer with that cd? That would ensure that the problem is software.

This is sooooo strange! Because while in Windows, I am able to read and execute stuff off the nLite created CD with no problem. It even auto-plays and everything. as for the CD's, I'm using a brand new spindle of TDK's so that shouldn't be it - especially since I've burned a whole mess of other stuff with that same spindle with no problem. The CDROM drive itself and DVDRW drive are my old trusty Plextor Premium and DVDRW..... no issues ever...

Could it have something to do with my system tweaks within nLite?

your tweaks look fine to me..

try running windows setup from in windows.. it'll copy all the needed files, reboot, and run windows setup without needing to boot from the windows cd.

of course, this way, you'll get a C:/windows.old as well, rather than a clean formatted partition, but you can just del the old win folder
