ilona
I'm sharing internet with the neighbours via a switch. Unfortunately the computer don't get an IP address. My configuration:Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo 600 PMainboard: D1625Onboard Intel® Pro/100 VE Network adapter. When I use my own network with a router and cross cable then I have an IP address. The onboard adapter is OK.Conclusion:Cross cable / router works.Straight cabel / switch don't works. No messages in the event viewer.I have reinstalled the network adapter. There are no problems when I put the cable in an another computer. It's only the Fujitsu where it's not working. It drives me crazy

It's only the Fujitsu where it's not working. It drives me crazy is the network set to automatically assign ip addresses via DCHP.Have you tried a static address? To do that you would have to:Instructions when running XP1. Find a computer that works with an ip2. Open the network connections folder on the computer with an ip3. double click the computers network adapter (that's plugged in)The status dialog should have come up4. choose the support tab5. click on the details button6. note the ip address, subnet mask, default gateway and the dns servers (there should be two)then on the computer that doesnt work1. open the network connections page2. right click the adapter3. choose properties4. 'This connect uses the following items:' box scroll down till you get to the 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' box5. Click on it once then click on the 'Properties' button below the boxa dialog should have come up6. then click on the radio button that says 'Use the following IP addresses' and enter all your noted addresses (ip address, subnet mask, default gateway and the dns servers)7. with the ip address to prevent conflcts change the last set of numbers to 255 (e.g my ip harvested ip was 10.1.1.23 i would change it to 10.1.1.255)apply the changes and try the connection if it doesn't work try the end ip of 254post back if that then still doesn't work
ilona
Yes, I have open a dos box and give a "ipconfig /all"TCPIP settings changed (different IP address) on the network adapter.Plug in the cable and..... event viewer says: Yoh, you have network connection, timesvr started but failed. When I start the explorer then I see that the proxy settings is found but no connection to wwwDisabled firewall and mcafee: no result.Change the adapter settings to automatic and the computer gives me the 169.254.131.164 IP address. (MS)Disabled the onboard adapter and uses a PCI Lan adapter. Problem still exist.I don't see conflicts in the event viewer related to other hardware. When you plug the cable in the adapter you have to see a Internet connection, and I see that on the other pc's. On the Fujitsu I do not see a new connection, the only change is the adapter self "Connection with firewall".

jcarle
Most ISPs assign only one IP, so a switch won't work.
