Sberla Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 i have an ASUS Nvidia 7600GT and i want to use it whit win98SEin the asus site they aren't the drivers for win98SE, it's possible to create some patch? If someone can help me, let me know...
Petr Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 As you may see at http://www.nvidia.com/object/81.98_9x_supported.html Nvidia does not have any Win9x drivers for 7xxx and 8xxx series.Petr

Eck Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 I don't know what would happen, but I remember that the Gigabyte Ge-Force 6600GT I have came with drivers that by the NVidia ReadMe's did not support the card! And for the longest time (haven't been there for a while) the Gigabyte website kept offering the older driver from the 7000 series that, according to NVidia, did not support the 6000 series of chipsets.Perhaps you could try installing the latest 81.98 NVidia drivers for 9x and see what happens? The setup file might just install everything but some features of the card would not be activated, like fancy 3D gaming effects since the drivers wouldn't know how to turn them on in the later cards.Even if setup tells you your card isn't supported you could then try manually updating using Device Manager to the drivers in the extracted NVidia folder that contains the inf's for 9x.You never know until you try.Just be sure your motherboard chipset AGP Gart driver is installed and operating properly first, and that Direct X 9.0c is installed before you start installing the NVidia drivers. Internet Explorer updated to 6 SP1 also helps newer installers work correctly. Windows Installer 2.0 helps too. I just want to make sure it's the NVidia driver that can't be installed and not an installer glitch caused by not having those things installed first.
Petr Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1284they did 2!This is standard Nvidia WHQL 81.98 Win9x driver downloaded from nvidia.com, please read the list of supported types above - there is no 7xxx type.Or you can read the Release Notes: http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/81.98/8...lease_Notes.pdfPetrI remember that the Gigabyte Ge-Force 6600GT I have came with drivers that by the NVidia ReadMe's did not support the card!Accoring to the Release Notes 6600GT (AGP) is oficially supported by Nvidia.Petr
MDGx Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1284they did 2!Nope, they don't. LLXX Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Try putting your 7600GT's device ID in there and installing it... unless they did a huge redesign of their hardware (unlikely, as I see at least two years of nVidia GPUs there) it should at least work.Well, you do have 640x480 4-bit colors if nothing else works

Petr Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 The list at http://www.nvidia.com/object/81.98_9x_supported.html is not correct, much better is to use the list in the INF file posted by MDGxAnd just a note, according to http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/81.98/8...lease_Notes.pdf just AGP versions of 6xxx are supported, not PCI-E versions. PCI-E and AGP versions have different PCI ID.I have forced Win98SE to use this driver with some PCI-E graphics boards (6200, 6200 with Turbo Cache, 6600) and it worked.Petr
bugtest Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 hey to all, unfortunately seems that the 81.98 drivers don't work on 7600 with the new PCI ID which is recognized but the system freezes at boot when the gui loads.Surfing on Internet I have found the 82.16 drivers provided by BFG for the 7800 GS card which can be considered the real latest drivers for this OS: http://www.bfgtech.com/7800GS_256.htmlProblems here too.Other solutions?Someone has a contact in Nvidia? eh eh ehI think that Win9x drivers are useful to many people so I hope we (or Nvidia) will find a solution.
Lunac Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Nvidia's 81.98 are severely unstable. Also, you will suffer a serious performance hit in anything requiring DirectX 8.1 or below. (These drivers seem optimized for Directx 9.x). I got a drop of nearly 15% in 3DMark2001 with these drivers as compared to 40.72. On the other hand I got a small 3-4% boost in OpenGL benchmarks (GLExcess) when compared to 40.72. Oh yeah, uninstall under Win98SE is broken in 81.98, so you will have to use something like DriverCleaner to get rid of it.
Petr Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Nvidia's 81.98 are severely unstable.Do you have any details? I have 81.98 on all my Win9x computers since it was released and never seen any stability problem. And if you read release notes you will see that there were many and many bugs corrected in newer versions (since series 40)Petr
