Asus K8v-MX with Win 98SE?

Hi All,

Does this motherboard (the K8v-MX) come with Win 98SE driver support on the CD?

I really need a new board, badly, and this seems like one the few that will work.

If it does work, will it give me setup problems? I tried finding out this info online, but

after searching for hours, gave up. Asus' site WON'T say which OS's are supported.

Maybe it is time for a thread on boards that work with 98SE well??

How about a grading for them, like:

Level A support (works with no setup woes);

Level B support (works well, but has setup troubles)

Level C (iffy support)

Level D (barely works with 98SE - like most nidva chipset boards, I take it)

Level F (no 98SE support)

Please share your wisdom!

Thanks,

Ron

Yes, Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M-RH contains VIA K8M800 chipset as well and I believe more in Gigabyte, but it is everybody personal preference.

I see no reason not to use SATA HDD bigger than 137 GB, you do, Roman?

You are correct. Maybe I'm biased because I do have problems with Error Event 11

(but this is Windows XP.SP2!!!) with my ASRock K8-Combo-Z (ULi M1689).

i cant wait now for the next m5289 driver to see if Uli will fix the problem with SATA drives (a Hitachi 160gig 7k250 in my case). At least they specify in the readme.txt of the driver :

"Support Hitachi SATA HDD, but not recommended. (Win98/Me/NT4.0/Win2000/XP)"

a loud hard drive reading/clicking sound that you hear till your speakers, then BSOD... its very boring.... i've tried with a standard ATA drive (a western digital) and no problems at all

When starting W98.SE (multiple boot) I have to disconnect

my SATA disk before powering on my PC ...
