Lite Windows

You will have to excuse me fellas, but this has been done numerous times already.

Utilize Google for a bit and you should find ;)

For the beginner I recommend Bold Fortune's site, he has done some extensive trial and error work in the past.

There are threads here as well somewhere ;)

Hi hulkviper.

Yeah, but we are talking about windows sources, not windows installations, so that doesn't apply here.

ok :S

So next time I can remove the driver from my windows xp source and everything will work?

I did not understand how it could change anything.

I think I got it : this is probably installed as a filter driver. If you delete a filter driver without removing the corresponding entries in the registry. Search for "filter driver" in [ur=http://www.sysinternals.com/blog/2005/10/sony-rootkits-and-digital-rights.html]this page, take a look at the picts and you will see imapi. ;)

(IMO there may be a related file/entry to delete)

And IMAPI seems to be only related to burning by MS : IMAPI Image Mastering API (Microsoft)

@Clint, I know some of these topics and it's sometimes easy to get a bit lost.

among others -> http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=52357

Exactly :) I removed all the imapi related files and i still was able to erase and burn a CD-RW absolutely normally. I used the free CDBurner XP.

Hi Clint. Indeed there are several posts that talk about removing addicional files from the I386, the thing is, i can't find one that talks about removing ALL the components possible AFTER nLite. So i'll try and list the reasons i think this post is worth it:

- The only one that talks about removing ALL the possible files from your installation source AFTER nLite;

- I'll post a CMD file, so newbies (and pro's too) can remove all the files listed.

- Maybe give a hand to nLite on removing addicional files, who knows :)

Or am i wrong? Because if there actually is a post with this goal i'll just delete mine :P

Thanks for your input,

André Casal

Some .cat files can be replaced with 0-bit equivalents:

spX.cat (the level of your SP under winXP)

MSTSWEB.CAT

MAPIMIG.CAT

IASNT4.CAT

HPCRDP.CAT

OSCCAB.CAT

The last five save approx. 100KB.

It is possible you have .CA_ files in i386 for these. When replacing with 0-bit equivalents, you should rather have a .CAT extension.

I've successfully replaced all CAT files inside ASMS with 0-bit ones (saves 150KB).

This sort of replacement did not work for I386\NT5.CAT.

And I wanted to add I use a sfcfiles.dll replacement (which is nearly empty so it saves approx. 1MB from my CD).

I've also cabbed all dlls inside ASMS (saves 5MB). I thought ASMS compression would stay in nlite and would only be disabled for XP Gold or so.

Hum, very insteresting Camarade_Tux.

I'll add your precious tips to the 1st post.

Could you provide your sfcfiles.dll replacement please?

I thought ASMS compression would stay in nlite and would only be disabled for XP Gold or so.
For want i understand you're saying nLite doesn't really use ASMS compression even though it is selected?

All my DLL's inside ASMS are compressed when ASMS Compression is selected in nLite.

nLite doesn't have a "zero-byte files" options, does it?

We are almost breaking the 50MB barrier

Thanks to the friend fdv thanks, see http://www.vorck.com/hfslip.html and search for "sfc" in the page, it is near the first occurence. :)
