Ambassador Posted October 13, 2006 Share Posted October 13, 2006 (edited) Is there someway to replace the crappy DOS Scandisk include with 98SE with the Chkdsk scanner used with Windows 2000/XP?That way, when I improperly restart, it actually will fix stuff. Ambassador Posted October 14, 2006 Author Share Posted October 14, 2006 Well I like Chkdsk better than Scandisk because with Scandisk all you get is a progress bar and it doesn't tell what it is doing. With Chkdsk, it actually gives you information, like what exact files have problems.To my observation, unless you are in "automatically correct all errors" mode, scandisk tells you what file or folder has got a problem and presents you with several choices of action. OK for WinNT4/2k/XP/2k3/Vista when checking FAT16/FAT32/NTFS drives.the CHKDSK module from the NT-based Windows versions dont work under Win95/98/ME/DOS. CHKDSK for Win9xME can NOT fix "physical" problems on your FDs/HDs the way that Scandisk does. Also, ScanDisk (in either DOS or Windows mode) can find and fix MANY MORE problems than what CHKDSK does. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
