i have installed windows 2000 using the "pid 270" trick, and i cannot get microsoft to reconize my product version...

when i goto my computer -> properties it says i am running windows 2000 sp4 and that my build # is

5.00.2195

i tried updating through windows update and it said i needed:

BITS 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1 and

windows installer 3.1

clicked yes to allow it to install and i got and error

when i downlaoded them idvidually form microsoft's site, i was able to install windows installer 3.1

but i got and error when i tried installing BITS 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1, it said

"the version of windows you have installed does not match the update you are trying to install"

when i run mgadiag i get this info:

I'm assuming you attempted to install the downloads from the following URL:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842773

You should only get that error when you have a package for an OS that you do not have installed. Note that none of the installers make a distinction between versions of Windows 2000 (OEM, VLK, or retail), so it shouldn't be a problem installing the update as long as your OS is reporting 5.1.2195 to the version check (which I'm assuming it is, if you were able to install Windows Installer 3.1).

Did you use any tool to modify the installation of Windows 2000 before installing? Also, did the OS include a slipstreamed version of SP4 when you installed it, or did you install SP4 separately?

i didnt use any thing to mess around with the cd,

it does have sp4 slipstreamed

does it have anything to do with the pid? i did change it to 270, i know that windows xp is now getting picky if you change the pid...

i have gotten windows update to work after i registered, the thing that say im using firefox is most likely refering to my default browser, which is firefox...

i just dont understand why it say "unsupported os" when i run the app?

thanks

dosworld

also, is it normal for your pid to change when you register?

thanks
