Windows 2003 Product Activation Keeps Returning

Recommended Posts

Office XP is easily fixed as well.

Look for the file MSO.dll and make a backup of that (its in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ folder in one of the office folders).

I've not heard of a product key being blacklisted either.

If you have proof of purchase, and are willing to show MS it, there is nothing to be afraid of.

People are making a bigger fuss out of something that isn't really that much of an issue.

I have activated my copy of office XP and Windows XP a millions times. Yes I have to call every time and they ask me "Why are you installing it again?"

I say because I want to and I paid for it, is there a problem?

They say no and give me a new key to activate it. So if you really bought it then call them. They don't give you any crap.

So anyways, I ran this 2003 activation disabler patch that works on Windows XP and 2003, and it seemed to work fine when I ran it. Windows 2003 said it was now activated so I assumed the problem was over. However, as weeks went by, I ocasionaly would have a soft reset, due to some app that wasn't meant for 2003.

Anyways after about 4 or 5 soft resets ( that is, having the machine reboot while working, instead of shuting it down normally) I get this popup when I log on that says you have 7 days to activate Windows 2003. Just for the heck of it I say "ok activate product" ( why do I have to fear? I legally own the thing, worse case is I have to actually activate it) and it immediatley then says "already activated".

So now everytime I restart the machine and login it tells me I have 6, then 5, then 4 days to activate Windows, and each time I try to actually activate it, but instead it just tells me that Windows is already activated. I tried to run the activation patch again, but it too gives me an error saying already activated.

And this isn't the first time either... I have had this happen on 2 clean installs of 2003.... again, after a few crashes it starts to do this activation thing. On day 0, it just locked me outa my machine and I had to reformat ( fortunatley I had backups ).My guess would be that when it crashes something damages the activation file, but I don't understand why chckdsk doesn't pick it up. Very strange

Well I hope someone would help, cause I could sure use it. Thanks for any advice/ other 2003 patches you might recommend.

and PLEASE don't bleep me out saying "OOOOH, you jauRez'd 2003, you're a bad boy" cause I own it. I am so tired of people acting like 4 year olds taddling about the how the "Bad boy" is breaking the rules. I own 2003, and a bunch of Microsoft business server apps, as I subscribe to MSDN AND get their action pack. I just hate product activation and don't want to do it, like most people here.  /end rant

sorry for that,  but I am tired of all these people who go are trigger-happy "anti-pirating" mcarthyists....disabling product activation on a product I have a license for isn't pirating.

Thanks again

you should just activate it like everyone else. I activated my copy and it works very well indeed so far 1 month and no issues

As far as I can tell, these forums condone illegal activity. I guess posting that link directly into the forums wasn't such a good idea, and should have been relegated to the Private Message feature of this board.

While people can use it on legitimate copies of software, it is still illegal (as far as I know, reverse engineering of MS products still isn't allowed in any MS eula's I'm aware of).

Please remove it yourself, or perhaps a mod will.
