Interesting tip, I wasn't willing to download those 40 something Mb version out there; just a question are the VB6 (Visual Basic 6) - Runtime Files and .NET Framework 1.1 + 2.0 Addon-Pack on Sereby's site also multi-languaged?

please folks :no: ... create your own thread

@nuhi

I tested the netbt unlink modification a little, the hack itself works fine!

No problems because of it, I'm very happy with it. It seems to work for non-administrators, too. Tested it with power users. Didn't test it with users (I don't except problems).

I just noticed the following about the other netbt hack you offer in nlite:

When I set up the user and do the first login, several things are beeing executed. If I create the new user with administrator privileges, this user deletes the TransportBindName key everytime. So I need to set it again to \Device\ everytime I create a new user ...

I keep SMBDeviceEnabled set to 0.

I guess this is a problem in general ... please solve it *g*

So, ports open after starting netbt via net start netbt are:

TCP 139

UDP 138, 137

File exchange etc works fine ...

-just _ONE_ button to disable _ALL_ visual effects

to be continued ... ;-)

this is needed imo, so then you can go in and just enable the ones you may one, instead of having to trawl through each one..

-i keep visual styles and desktop icon dropshadows :)

hmm ...

2 things disturb me:

1st: the things under visual effects are not only visual effects in system, not only effects in display properties but extra stuff (window tracking speed e.g.)

2nd: Then I would prefer to disable all visual effects (with one button) and then select the things I want back.

But I don't want to expand 1x options just to disable each ...

-disable logging

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Micrsosoft\WBEM\CIMON

EnableEvents=0

Logging=0

BackupIntervallThreshold=100

I can't realize why almost everywhere is this tweak presented at this screwed up form (i mean BackupIntervallThreshold). Someone probably published it and other people copied and pasted it to their own web pages, lol. Sorry if I'm wrong, but look at the Micrsosoft key. :D Anyway, this is a good tweak and should be added to nLite at this form:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WBEM\CIMOM]
; 2000/XP/2003
"EnableEvents"="0"
"Logging"="0"
; 2000 only, WMI repository backup is manual in XP and above
"Backup Interval Threshold"="1440"

-unlock taskbar

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"LockTaskbar"=dword:00000000

This policy tweak can be used only to lock taskbar and make the "Lock the Taskbar" item grayed. Zero value forces nothing, rather use:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"TaskbarSizeMove"=dword:00000001

-don't report to microsoft if your system was infected by spyware

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\MRT]
"DontReportInfectionInformation"=dword:00000001

Tweak for Malicious Software Removal Tool, does not seem to be suitable for nLite.

Regarding TransportBindName zero-length value, it seems to be my fault, because I told nuhi to "update" the Disable Microsoft-DS tweak with it. In next version only SMBDeviceEnabled will be set.

Yes, it is BackupIntervalThreshold - my fault (I wrote that by hand and was not sure if it is intervall or interval - didn't copy it)

Thanks for the Taskbar reg key, didn't test it yet.

Yes, don't delete TransportBindName. I think this was "updated" from RC7 to RC8 - thought the new version of nlite was crap, until I found that out ;-)

@hanief:

My wishes

- Cleartype view in IE7 (an option to disable it in nLite)

until ie7 is not final there will be no tweaks for it.....

...meanwhile you can try to apply this REG file via Unattended > RunOnce section: ;)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"UseClearType"=dword:00000000

@Tomik:

What about support for Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PC's?

There already has been discussion about it:

Imho the best and the easiest way how to integrate a tweak for disabling IE7 ClearType without need to create any files, is currently to add this command to Unattended > RunOnce page:

REG.EXE ADD "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" /v UseClearType /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

"Attributes"=hex:70,10,00,20

"CallForAttributes"=dword:00000040

Thanks for a tip, I revised it slightly: :P

Weird bit - you mean "hex:70,01,00,20", don't you? "CallForAttributes" can be set to "dword:00000000" to enable Rename and Delete items on the context menu.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\ShellFolder]
; 2000/XP/2003:
"Attributes"=hex:70,01,00,20
; XP/2003 only:
"CallForAttributes"=dword:00000000

Btw, sorry vci... :whistle:
