Symantec Antivirus

Recommended Posts

Symantec Antivirus 10 is a real memory hog ....

Most machines have 100% CPU usage at all times..

This makes it impossible to use programs

Is there a way to minimize the resources of the rtvscan.exe and doscan.exe??

Maybe a reg tweak perhaps...

Please HELP!

Disable the useless services. I haven't used Symantec for a while. I changed to McAfee but now ima go with zonealarm. But again, just go to run->services.msc. From there just disable what you think you wouldn't need.

thats a windows problem, not a symantec problem. the fact is that symantec is just a resource hog and the only way to fix that is to use another AV. how is that not a real solution?

i use AVG. i love it, and its fast. i havent used NOD yet, so i might be checking it out pretty soon.

if you want to see a vote of a bunch of different av programs, heres a good one:

if symantec is like mcaffe, then... well.. your kind up the creek, the best thing to do is use a different av program. it really depends on what it scans, if you disable different services, your losing the full functionality of the program, if thats the case then whats the point of installing it in the first place?

I dont know if this is the case for you or not but when you first install sav it does a full system scan in the background. If you reboot or anything before it finishes then it will start again. Also you probably should have network scanning turned off on SAV. I have used 10.0 and currently use 10.1 and do not have a problem with it...
