cocoharley
I'm not sure exactly which category this falls under. I hope this is the right place to post it.A few days ago, I started having problems with web-based email services such as Yahoo, Hotmail, and Excite, as well as a few other non-email websites on one of my computers. With Yahoo, regardless of which folder I clicked on (or the "empty" option for junk and trash), I'd keep arriving at the inbox. And when I was at the inbox and tried to delete checked messages or report them as spam, it was as if I'd kept clicking on the refresh button - none of the messages could be deleted and I'd keep seeing the same thing over and over again. Whenever I tried to open any message in the inbox, I'd get the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error message. I could only see the email message after I’d refreshed the page. Any attempt to view the previous or next message would result in the same problem (and same “solution”). And whenever I tried to delete the message that I'd been viewing, I'd get the "There was a problem accessing your mailbox" error message. With Hotmail, the only folder I could access was also only the inbox. Deleting checked messages from the inbox sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. I couldn't open any messages at all - the page just kept refreshing whenever I clicked on any messages. With Excite (which my roommate uses and I don’t, so I don't know all the details), there’d been problems deleting selected messages from the inbox as well.My boyfriend was looking up phones and PDAs on the Cingular website a couple of days ago, and when he tried to click on a phone to see the details, the page just kept refreshing and bringing him back to the search results page.At first, I thought those websites were just having temporary problems due to maintenance, but the problems have persisted. The first thing I did was remove all temporary internet files and cookies. When that didn't work, I tried Norton SystemWorks (used all features that were relevant), without any success.Next, I tried running Norton Antivirus, Spybot Search & Destroy, Counterspy, Ewido Anti-Spyware, and Lavasoft’s Ad-Aware, but none of them fixed the problem. Spybot did find something (over and over again) that it wasn’t able to delete – Web-Nexus (file: wuaclt.dll). I tried deleting the file manually but kept getting an error message (I forgot what it said). I managed to delete it in safe mode and Spybot is no longer detecting this problem. But the problems with the email services and a few other websites persist. What should I do?!I ran HijackThis and if anyone cares to help me interpret the log file I'll post it. Thanks in advance! Tarun
Hi cocoharley; what are all the scans you've run for anti-virus and anti-malware?
cocoharley
Hi cocoharley; what are all the scans you've run for anti-virus and anti-malware?I'm not sure exactly what you meant by that. Well, they all found some problems (different problems) and have fixed those problems.Anyhow, guess what? I decided to try uninstalling Internet Explorer 7 and the system reverted to the previous version (6), and I'm not having the same problems with version 6. I wonder if the beta version (7) is problematic. It still works fine on my other computer though.
Tarun
What I meant was what scanning programs you ran on your computer? I generally recommend running Avast and my Anti-Malware Professional package. Glad to hear that you resolved your issue. Did you get to report the bug to MS?
