Vista is another outstanding flop !

The bottom line is that the US military is going to have more headaches with vista than they had with xp.

That may be true. However, as a sysadmin in the military and having used the Vista beta2 and being aware of the Longhorn beta builds, I can tell you there are things in Vista to like from a military point of view. Network Access Control, USB access control, more modular design, and IE7+ all seem worthwhile things. Bitlocker, ALSR, and some of the new wizards are also nice from the security point of view. Additionally, the expanded group policy is something that interests me as a Army sysadmin.

Will we move to it at RTM? Almost certaintly not. Having said that does it make sense in the Longhorn timeframe? Yes, assuming that they work the kinks out. I admit that the beta sucks up memory, but internal builds that have not gone public improve upon this alot. The real time to make that decison is after it RTMs and we can commit to a full torture test. I for one look forward to the offical testing. I will judge it then.

vista = windows ME

wait for longhorn.

the military's reliance on windows is shameful. good job contractors for designing software that requires the least secure OS.

vista is very much not ME, if you would like to point out similarities then list them, as for longhorn, it is a server product, not a desktop product, and it is also very very good :) NAP is probably one of the coolest new features out for it

well the scary thing about Vista is yes it is currently rubbish, and yes it is beta software, but it is supposed to be in stores in just a few months! I really dont see how Microsoft can fix all of its problems in this short period of time. Also I just dont see any compelling reason to 'upgrade' to vista. OSX looks better everyday. The only hope I have for MS is they're intentionally making these betas crap so people cannot use them for work and have to buy the final product, but I doubt that is true and MS is probably in a lot of trouble.

DigeratiPrime i cot not have said it better myself the way microsoft run there business i am thinking buying OSX Tiger next time to. in the first place Microsoft has never made anything self accept ads for there expensive

products they buy everything from other companys.

Microsoft look like a outsourceing gangster cartel that is protected by a Judicial System with a criminal national security policy in full action. the ugly truth is that microsoft is not a private company but US goverment front that only have one interest spying on every person that has a pc and force them to use windows. by the way the internet was created by the NSA and Microsoft together with only one purposes in mind spying one every person on the planet that has a pc . If this post is getting me banned from your forum so be it is time someone tells the truth about Microsoft and it`s Gangster boss mr Al Capone Jr aka Sire William Gates III.

Come on, tell us what you really* think!

Not an impossible scenario, but a little (a lot?) far-fetched. I'm certain that if such collusion was in the works you wouldn't know about it anyway.

thanks for telling me what longhorn is

Vista is like ME because it's nothing more than hype which is designed to line the pockets of m$.

m$ has spent a lot of money to figure out what could attract consumer spending, their consensus: shiny bling.

Vista adds more bloat than it does functionality and i'm sure it's successor will be a very fine product.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Server 2003 SP2 more than Vista. The Rolodex task switching is not nearly as cool (or useful) as the Mac Expose feature. DirectX10 doesn't really appeal to me since I don't have the hardware. And I'd be scared to trust my data to an OS with nearly everything designed: kernel, audio, graphics, and network stacks, core Windows applications, overall architecture, etc. It's just going to be a domino effect in terms of security/stability. I wouldn't be surprised if Vista had more patches in the first few months than even XP. Change isn't good when you're talking about Microsoft.

I waited for this response, when people can`t deal with something they have being conditioning via social engeering by the society ,the the media to believe that person most be insane.

But conditioning, social engeering, and propaganda, once again, are all part of the deception. In a very real sense, knowingly or not, leaders tend to keep society trapped in a childlike state of dependency.

Aegis i cot not have said it better myself 2003 or 2003 SP1 is the best Windows OS i ever have try that came from microsoft. I used to convert it to workstation and it run like chame, i will sign up for a new 180-day evaluation free trial again, when the new Server 2003 SP2 is coming out.

@the-matrix The Internet is for porn, wait no :P The Internet was created by DARPA by the US government for the military to be able to communicate if there was a global nuclear war. I believe it was Al Gore who helped push it into Public Schools and Libraries etc which then became a commercial service through private ISP's. Now that might be an over simplification (www?) but its fairly accurate I believe. However that is way off-topic, back to Vista.

[edit] here's a good bit of history http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet#Crea...of_the_Internet

My primary concerns with Vista is it will ship with a lot of bugs because MS is rushing it out the door. As for the performance problems and bloat well I dislike that but its not as important as getting it to work. Believe it or not other operating systems are very bloated alreadyincluding many Linux distros and OSX. Hopefully nLite will work with Vista.

I agree Totally, i would rather MS take another 3 months if needed and fix bug/complete features rather then seeing it pushed to the door to meet a Januart Deadline for endusers that. Technically it will have to RTM in october/November Time frame to get out to users and stores by January. Hopefully they will suck it up and If they have issues they will delay it.

Vista may have alot of hype, but that is also because MS has not pushed a desktop OS in 5 -6 years, people have become engrained into what they have at once they are there, they are hard pressed to change to something else. "Shiny Bling" as you put it is something that alot of the user base (remeber 70% or some of windows users are technical enough to find the power button or even worse they are a after hours Techy (shudder)) like to feel comfortable with OS and enjoy a more ascetically pleasing experience especially to the eyes.

As for bloatware, everyone keeps saying bloatware but no examples... Are there features that make it bloated? is it extra services? what do you feel is there that doesn't need to be or what not. you are right, 7 gig is alot for an OS, if you are worried about that then maybe Vista starter will be a good choice, it has the smallest feature set and will have smallest footprint on the computer

What is 7 gig nowadays though? I really don't care how big the footprint is - its the services that matter.

ATM: My current Vista uptime has been just over 9 hours with moderate usage. Its current ram usage is ~560mb, just over 50%. Although it looks a lot, that still means theres another 500mb waiting. Looking at it that way, it isn't bad for a Beta OS.

DigeratiPrime that is the official story about how the internet was created in the first place in 1969 i have also heard that story befor, i was talking about the was untold story why it became a commercial service through private ISP's by 1 januar 1993.
