Forums/Site leaked email address

I haven't been frequenting this site too much lately, so I'm lat getting into the game. I do not blame Xper, Arron, or the other admins for this security event. The email address that was used has a period in it, so a number of spam generating programs choke on it and throw it out as being invalid. But for the most part, I don't get much spam at that address as it's for commercial use only, mailing lists, etc...and my ISP does a very good job of filtering the junk out into my bulk folder.

Once again, I don't blame MSFN for this as this was a security exploit in code that IPB wrote. The software developers are human themselves and they make mistakes. It happens. I do commend MSFN for taking quick action and alerting us to the event.

If the password database was not compromized, then I'm not going to worry about it. Seriously, who would post here in someone else's name? It sounds to me like the hackers were after the email addresses to begin with so they could sell them for a profit. What profit is there is logging into the board and posting as someone else? None that I can see.

At least, spam is funny (that is the first I received in 7 days):

Longer orgasms - The longest most intense orgasms of your life

Rock hard erections - Erections like steel

Increased sexual desire - Enhanced libido

Ejaculate like a porn star - Stronger ejaculation (watch where your aiming)

Multiple orgasms - Cum again and again

Up to 500% more volume - Cover her in it if you want

Sweeter tasting sperm - Studies show it improves the flavor

I especially enjoyed the "(watch where your aiming) ". :)

(there was some keywords between the lines, but normal user just couldn't see them, it just makes things easier for spam filters.

What's even more interesting is that it's the first link that works.

The link (hxxp://rearms.net/spurm/?dude44_ recommended that you don't click it) has the referrer information in it, so that whoever sent the spam can attempt profit. Now if anyone has the courage (or the h@x0ring skills) to ask the company for their email address or something, maybe we can flood them back with spam.

And here's the WHOIS info: http://www.whois.net/whois.cgi2?d=rearms.net

I haven't been here for a few months, however last time I was here

I contacted xyper about the fact that I received an email from someone

here who was also another member on another forum, however I often

had fallouts with this member as did other members on the forum, which

eventually led to his banning...

Now nobody here knows that I dont get on very well with this member

yet this members account here on this forum was hacked & an email

sent to me with the intention of starting a war..

I replied to the PM asking wtf was going on & the member assured me

he didn't send me the abusive PM, claiming that someone must have

hacked his account with the intention of starting a war...

Which now leads me to beleive that whoever hacked this members

account must also be a long time member on this other forum where

the original dispute took place, being that it was 2 years ago...

that would narrow the members down to about 100, most of who are

good contributing members leaving a few trouble makers to choose

from...

This other forum was also hacked, & an ip was logged of the incedent...

So my question is, why didn't Xyper act on the PM I sent him regarding

this matter, it could have saved a lot of greif here on this forum....

You know who I mean goose, don't make an issue of it.

A response iv'e come to expect from the kids on this forum.

Really.!

This topic is the result of This post here..

Which if you can't read, states.

There was a security exploit in IPB v2.1.6 known only to small group of hackers. We found some indications that IPB was compromised in a malicious way. Unfortunately, we do not know how much information was compromised. As of this time, we know that members who were registered as of July 12, 2006 had their addresses harvested by the compromise. Please change your e-mail address and password to ensure your security.

My post above mentions the fact that a members account here was hacked resulting

in someone else logging in as a different member & causing trouble...

I also mentioned that it was possibly the same someone who hacked another

forum running the same software, who's IP was logged...

But hey, seeing your not interested i'll save my breathe.

Kid? I do hope you realize XPerties is no "kid". Maybe a look at his profile would help you understand this.

Hmmm... Then how was this topic started a full 10 days BEFORE that topic was created?

We are, in fact, interested, and are still looking into this matter very seriously. If you would give us a chance, we would be able to help. As you might expect, a forum Administrator gets tens or hundreds of PMs to look into per day. It takes time to do this, and most of us here have a life outside of MSFN. We try our best in answering these PMs.

Out...

[1] this topic was started 10 days before most likely because it took that period

of time to wake up to the breach ...

[2] I sent the PM relating to my original post 3 months ago, which can only mean

xper insn't interested, or too busy to care...

[3] yes I realise XPerties is no kid, just treats others as though they are...

[4] as I said above, I won't waste my time posting on any such

topic again I can assure you... ;)

Boy you are one of the hugest jackasses around and no wonder why you don't get along with people as you already stated above.

Your post doesn't have a got-dam thing to do with what happen here and if your "so highly educated" arse would know anything about security or really understood the word "hack" then maybe you would have a better understanding of the what REALLY happen.

Now go troll another thread and stop trying to bring "I'm special, I told you so" followers along. BTW you said "I haven't been here for a few months", can this happen again for a longer period?

**Ridiculous, simple mind blowing retarded cows stupid statements**

As I can see so far there are no more emails leaked, which means that this problem is fixed.

As for this hacking of an account... this couldn't only be possible if the owner of the account didn't have a secure password or left him/herself logged in on a public computer. Insulting other members is NOT allowed here, and just coming here after a few month of inactivity just to bash around isn't nice either....

So for now i see no reason to leave this topic open, thanks to K e n for that. If anyone has something which has anything to do with the leaking of emails, then contact me with a PM.
