WGA to Shut Windows Off in the Fall?

Microsoft should save this WGA for Vista, XP is old, and Vista is coming out. Why do it now anyway?
That is the frame of mind they want. "XP is old and has that WGA crap...so I'll just buy a shiny new copy of Vista as soon as it comes out...I can't wait!" bah. Try linux instead.

If I just needed basic office, email and browser, I'd switch to Linux, OOo, Thunderbird and Firefox right now. Businesses and individuals that just need those basics will eventually switch over to that I'm sure.

But for my work I need to use various programs that run only on Windows. Aside from OOo, I just don't see a lot of Windows programs being ported over to Linux. Also, best games run only on Windows.

So the short answer is, the intrusion level of WGA is complete bullcrud, but we have to put up with it because there's no alternative out there . . . unless you have Win2k :thumbup

When support for Win2k runs out, there had better be a massive outcry so that M$ extends support for Win2k beyond 2010 like they did for NT and the Win 9x/ME family.

i think they will, its a major business operating system. there will be a huge outcry when business can't get security updates to the OS that they use to store all the sensitive data.

Support running out won't be too bad...also they will still be doing XP a bit longer and many of its updates will work on 2k to some degree. (might take some extra manual effort though)

And yeah don't underestimate everyone still using 2000...its still pretty big is business and they're waiting for whatevers after vista heh. Thats if everything doesn't end up MS Server Enterprise [Year] on some big iron running a couple dozen/hundred VPCs with 2k too.

Guess what everyone Hyipo (me) is another victim of StuPid Micro$$oft ripoffs.

What happened is I have a COMPAQ Presario S4020WM and guess what It had a genuine copy. Guess what happened I got a genuine Error from Microsoft. I called them and told them I had a genuine copy on a COMPAQ computer, also that I got a genuine error and they gave me bad information and then hang up. I will not buy another copy cause I already own one. I will not pay twice for the same thing I already owned. Stupid Microsoft.

I bet in 30 days they will shut down my COMPAQ. I hate Monopolies. I say we petition against WGA.

If I didn't know any better I would think that the reason theres WGA is to keep old copies of XP from being legal and genuine so we have to keep buying copies of Windows XP each 1, 2, or 3 years. That's evil. What about the poor people.

Just like the old saying "The rich is getting richer, and the poor is getting poorer."

and the people in the middle get screwed either way.

i know what you mean though, and its not right. a code should stay legal as long as it doesnt start spreading all over the plac, they need to monitor it better.

im wanting to start my own pc repair business ive been repairing pcs for loads of ppl (including one when i went to bulgaria and i dont have a clue how to speak their lingo) anyway the activation of windows is really annoying... ive learned to backup the wga file b4 formatting windows it is better than saying to ma m8's "soz dude because your too stupid to know the difference between x and z app ur windows product key has now been invalidated" when i now just say... keep off the dodgy porn sites lol

I reported what they did to me to the BBB.

I think they did something illegal because They stole from me. Yeal I think they did because selling to people XP then taking it away from them even if they are using it one one computer, even if they don't activate a lot of times.

I think it should be illegal to force WGA and then dupe unsuspecting customers into losing update rights.

Maybe that's what pays for free software is to get people to buy XPs every this many years. They seem like scam artists and all for the Love of money.

Also

backup the wga file b4 formatting windows it is better than saying to ma
It's called WPA. I'm talking about WGA.
when i now just say... keep off the dodgy porn sites lol

Porn is not the reason for any of this. What happened was I got treated unfairly by big corp. monopolists.

False alarm. It got validated. I got real scared. It's just the old validation stuff like the quick validation where you download the file and get a code to validate it. The plugin was not much big in size so I dought it could hurt computers for the moment. I hope this never happens for real because I have been hearing stories about genuine people that can't validate.

I try to use a old WGA Firefox plugin but was the same size as the new one.

I think it could be all about Fear. Remember Y2K when we all got scared that all our computers will crash because we only programmed a 2 digit year like 01, or 99.

Maybe it's more fear from the media. Heck maybe it's to scare us all into buying Linux, Macontosh, or to get us to buy tons of copies of Windows XP.

Heck Fear does sell more products. It could start controversy.

Like look at stopfakenews

Sinclair Terrorizes with ‘I-Porn’

Faux tech-expert Robin Raskin offers video games as the antidote to “scary” pornographic i-Pods. What Raskin doesn’t mention is that she’s on the payroll of the companies whose products she’s pushing.

See it could be a Microsoft hired person starting trouble. Maybe they are not making a software killing agent.

One more thing: Look at this under section WGA rumors: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nf/20060705/tc_nf/44279
