Reduction Sets and Windows File Protection

this is from FDV ... :)

To shut Windows File Protection off:

Use a modified SFC.DLL in Windows 2000

Use a modified SFC_OS.DLL in Windows XP and Windows 2003

No need for a modified SFCFILES.DLL

To disable Windows File Protection causing it to check an empty list:

Use a modified SFCFILES.DLL in ANY version of Windows

No need for a modified SFC*.DLL

For complete overkill, so that Windows File Protection is shut off AND has an empty list which it doesn't even check:

Use a modified SFC.DLL in Windows 2000

Use a modified SFC_OS.DLL in Windows XP and Windows 2003

AND Use a modified SFCFILES.DLL in ANY version of Windows

hope this helps ...

OK, so can I use a modified SFCFILES.DLL to reduce the source, install, reboot into the recovery console, replace the modified SFCFILES.DLL with the MS one, rebuild the file list and enable WFP?

Is this an error, the components I want removed are gone. The only strange thing is during first logon and any other time new hardware (usb mem stick) or system software is recognized the OS tries to install the drivers or codexes and a pop-up displays saying the software is not Windows certified. Its MS software or drivers the system is asking to install. If I tell it to install anyway everything works and no complaints untill the next time. XP SP2 all patches, No modified system dlls except UXTHEME.DL_. Anyone seen this before?

Those reducers are crafted by me with lots of inputs from Oleg from earlier this year... and yes they are a bit buggy. Have you read the readme in that zip file? They do work great on a 2k install. :)

Yes, I read the readme. I was just asking if anyone else using those reducers has experienced the issue and found a solution. I plan to keep testing on XP and eventually 2003. I love the program and would like to contribute, since I am new to this it might take a bit, but eventually ....

hi mystek!

already posted the same concern before ...

here's TC's reply:

this is nothing much ... but may be worth a look ...

"Founding" :)

Yeah... That's why CounterStrike isn't made for DOS... :D

My reference to Counterstrike was about the fact you see two lines on one (mixed). This is a bug in DOS. (Display problems in DOS => no Counterstrike for DOS).

"File not found" can be an error but it isn't necessarily.
