mystek
Is this normal? I was experimenting with adding drivers and used the following folder structure:HFEXPERT\WIN\SYSTEM32\DRIVERSI added one driver set and ran HFSLIP_60616a and ended up with a TXTSETUP.SIF file of 1K, the only entry was <Blank Line>[sourceDisksFiles]<Empty>Next I tried deleting the driver set incase the INF was bad, same result (Emply drivers folder). Then I deleted the DRIVERS folder and reran again same result (Empty System32 folder). Then deleted SYSTEM32 same result (Empty Win folder). Then deleted WIN folder and everything works as normal.I have the HFEXPERT\APREPLACEMENT folder with Calc.exe, Taskmgr.exe and it works great.Any suggestions ot comments? I also tried to add the Help folder with 2 chm files and ended up with the same result. Did I read the docs wrong? Tomcat76
Hi Mystek.I checked the HFEXPERT code from bottom to top (and then from top to bottom which made a lot more sense ).It looks like there are two problems, one of which I just fixed (see test release 60616b):1) for some reason, the section that deals with subdirectories of HFEXPERT\WIN\SYSTEM32 fails in your case2) HFSLIP didn't provide a safety net for when files are detected in HFEXPERT but none were processed (causing your broken TXTSETUP.SIF file)I'm sure that if you try the latest test release, TXTSETUP.SIF will remain in tact but the files in DRIVERS are ignored. Is that correct? Edited June 17, 2006 by Tomcat76
mystek
Not exactly, now I have a TEMP folder off the root of HFSLIP containing the folder structure:WIN\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS with the one driver I tried in the DRIVER folder and a text file "HFEXPERT.TXT" of 0KB at the root of the TEMP folder. The orginial TXTSETUP.SIF in SOURCE\i386 is 461KB and the new one in SOURCESS\i386 is 466KB. Compared both files and there was no difference, so I quess it is a compression difference. Tomcat76
OK. I pretty much have an idea of how far you could go. I'll update the script so it deletes the TEMP folder in such case. But before we go any further... What's the name of the file? I hope it doesn't have an exclamation mark in it... mystek
Which file?
Tomcat76
The file you put in HFEXPERT\WIN\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS. Edited June 17, 2006 by Tomcat76
mystek
I actually put a set of driver files. Let me rerun it with a single inf, and try to reproduce the output.
mystek
ReRan with a single inf "net5211.inf" same result? Edited June 17, 2006 by mystek
Tomcat76
Don't know why you are posting this. HFSLIP doesn't open files so the content is irrelevant.I'll try to duplicate it. Edited June 17, 2006 by Tomcat76
Tomcat76
Really odd. I ran HFSLIP with just one file in HFEXPERT\WIN\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS and HFSLIP responded as intended.Do you have spaces in your HFSLIP path? It's possible that the part that deals with subdirectories of WIN other than SYSTEM32 and with subdirectories inside SYSTEM32 doesn't handle spaces. That little script section is a bit over my head (neither TommyP nor I wrote it) so I can't say for sure if that's the case. Can you post your HFSLIP.LOG file, please? mystek
Just tried something. I moved HFSLIP to the root of a drive and reran the program, this eliminated the extra TEMP folder. I guess the app looks at the whole folder structure it is in, not just where it it run from. Seems since the root directory that hosts HFSLIP has a space in it, it gets confused. Also removed the space in the orginial folder structure and reran, cleared the problem. Looks like the problem was with the space in the parent folder hosting HFSLIP. Sorry for all the trouble.
Tomcat76
I was about to ask to remove the space. HFSLIP doesn't use the whole path for the most part but sometimes it's necessary. It is circumvented wherever possible by quoting the paths. Most likely, the part that would take care of folders like HFEXPERT\WIN\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS doesn't accomodate for spaces in paths.BTW... I tried to edit your post but there doesn't seem to be a way anymore to get a scrollable box. So I just put it back to how it was. Tomcat76
In case you're still interested... Version 60617b allows you to have spaces in the path while parsing HFEXPERT\WIN...
mystek
Yes, I am interested. I really like HFSLIP, I just need to get up to speed with its abilities and short comings for what I want to do. I am working on a XP Pro build and then onto 2003 Server. I want to remove certain things and or configure a secure stable system. I have never tried to build a system like this and it is a challange. Thanks for all the great work and patience with those of us who are less knowledgeable. As for editing the post, I could just remove most of the posting between the solution?
