xp pro x64 edition ???
xp 64-bit edition (2002) (itanium) discontinued
xp 64-bit edition 2003 (itanium) discontinued

---

1) firstly, what are the different versions of XP Tablet PC?

2) is the complete list of XP MCE versions: initial release, 2003, 2004, 2005?

3) installing xp sp2 on previous versions of XP Tablet PC will upgrade it to the 2005 edition. is this the same for MCE? what about xp sp1/sp1a?

4) most importantly, im confused as to the service pack levels of x64 editions. i believe they were released after xp sp2/ 2k3 sp1. are they identified as rtm or sp1/2?

can someone help me out and answer these questions for me?

thanks

Let me explain.

Before xp sp1 there is no MCE neither Tabletpc editions

They are introduced after sp1

The initial release was MCE 2002 or TPC 2002 (ie along with SP1)

with SP2 it is upgraded to MCE2004 and TPC2005

MCE had a new edition MCE 2005 which released after SP2 (majo difference was ::includes wmp10 and new PLUS pack apps)

SP2 released in Aug 2004 and MCE 2005 in Oct 2004

For XP X64 edition there is no SP released till now

It is acually workstation build of Server 2003 with SP1.

xp X64 released before SP1 for server 2003 released.

am I clear ??

...am I clear ??
well, youve certainly helped!

so,

- x64 editions are built on server 2k3 sp1, inc XP x64

- Tablet PC & MCE editions are built on xp sp1

while you may consider them all to be rtm, i took a look at the file details for a few x64 updates, they infact use the folders SP1GDR and SP1QFE, not RTMGDR and RTMQFE! so therefore, they are actually reconised as being sp1. the reason im being so picky is because the project im working on is do to with microsoft patches, and so i need to know specifics!!

now, all i still need to know is:

1) the complete list of editions for Tablet PC and MCE. is it as follows:

Tablet PC: initial release (2002), 2004, 2005

MCE: initial release (2002), 2003, 2004, 2005

2) is there an sp1 for server 2k3 itanium releases?

3) what about service packs for 2k small business server which i believe exists (correct me if im wrong)

u wanna get details of all server 2003 editions check the deply.chm files of Server 2003 R2 CD2

i m just copying its front page

Microsoft® Windows ServerTM 2003 R2, Datacenter Edition

Microsoft® Windows ServerTM 2003 R2, Enterprise Edition

Microsoft® Windows ServerTM 2003 R2, Standard Edition

Microsoft® Windows ServerTM 2003 R2, Datacenter x64 Edition

Microsoft® Windows ServerTM 2003 R2, Enterprise x64 Edition

Microsoft® Windows ServerTM 2003 R2, Standard x64 Edition

Microsoft® Windows Storage ServerTM 2003 R2, Enterprise Edition

Microsoft® Windows Storage ServerTM 2003 R2, Express Edition

Microsoft® Windows Storage ServerTM 2003 R2, Standard Edition

Microsoft® Windows Storage ServerTM 2003 R2, Workgroup Edition

Microsoft® Windows Storage ServerTM 2003 R2, Enterprise x64 Edition

Microsoft® Windows Storage ServerTM 2003 R2, Standard x64 Edition

Microsoft® Windows Storage ServerTM 2003 R2, Workgroup x64 Edition

Microsoft® Windows ServerTM 2003, Datacenter Edition with Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Microsoft® Windows ServerTM 2003, Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Microsoft® Windows ServerTM 2003, Standard Edition with Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Microsoft® Windows ServerTM 2003, Web Edition with Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Microsoft® Windows ServerTM 2003, Datacenter x64 Edition

Microsoft® Windows ServerTM 2003, Standard x64 Edition

Microsoft® Windows ServerTM 2003, Datacenter Edition with Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Itanium-based Systems

Microsoft® Windows ServerTM 2003, Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Itanium-based Systems

inthe case of X64 edition (not itanium) af XP and 2K3 there are no SPs still.

Even then their patches shows SP1 is becoz they all built frm Server 2003 SP1 code base (that is NT version 5.2.3790.1830) or the source code

so they all have the SP1 for 2K3 applied in the source code level

The development of the different versions depend on the source code they use.

M$ keep only the base code version

i mean like NT 3.5, NT 4 , NT 5 etc

NT 5 is used for windows 2000

NT 5.1.2600 used for XP (SP2 had 5.1.2180)

NT 5.2 used for Server 2K3 (5.2.3790)

NT 5.2.3790.1830 for server 2K3 SP1 both X86 and X64, XP x64 etc

only developing thing is codebase.(in this case)

based on some codebase some OSes are built and some with someother codebase

TPC and MCE are introduced after SP1 for XP

it is the initial release with version 2002 (i suppose both TPC and MCE)

They both have SP1 contained in it.

Then along with SP2 which also contained the updates for TPC and MCE

TPC is upgraded to TPC 2005 and MCE to MCE 2004 with WMP9 engine for MediaCenter app.

After 1 or 2 months M$ released MCE 2005 with WMP 10 engine and look for MC

For the case of MCE there is an "Ident" which specifies the MC app version.

- initial release -- ident 1.0

- RollupUpdate1 -- ident 2.0

- MCE 2004 -- ident 3.0

- MCE 2005 -- idnet 3.1

- RollupUpdate 2 -- ident 3.2

I think there are no SBS for 2K

i dunno much abt TPC but

the initial release, after SP1, was in 2003

i think there are no versions between the initial release and 2005 for TPC, may be rollup updates are there which sometimes upgrades the

"Ident"

in 2004 SP2 was released so there is not much time gap for another version in between

Since the initial release was in 2003 , it may be as TPC 2003 and MCE 2003

( mistaken as 2002 in previous post - which i think confused u)
