I just did a clean install last night

and i still get the error message only after i install

MD Data Access Component Update 1.1

and Even when i download the Packages seperate from MS/Mdgx sites i still get the message

and yes i have all the latest up dates from Mdgx site.

I think its a bug that was looked over can somebody fix it?

Is it posible to describe how to reproduce the bugs, step-by-step?

Make sure you have all updates installed

install Dun 1.4 /msl2tp.exe

then navigate to Microsoft IPSec VPN Help and you should see it.

Make sure you have all updates installed

What means "all updates"?

So you mean:

1. Clean Windows 98 SE install, default (or what?) components

2. All updates from Windows Update (IE6 yes or no?)

3. Install http://download.microsoft.com/download/win...us/dun14-se.exe

4. Install http://download.microsoft.com/download/win...N-US/msl2tp.exe

or anything more?

4.Yes

So I have prepared clean full Windows 98SE install + IE6.0SP1 full install + I have installed the the a.m. packages, it was necessary to uninstall Internet Connection Sharing before to install the msl2tp.exe package.

Then I went to Start menu -> Programs -> Microsoft IPSec VPN -> Microsoft IPSec VPN Help and it displayed correctly.

Then I entered the a.m. URL (starting with mk: ) to IE and again the page displayed correctly.

What other test should fail?

I dont't know what Unofficial patches you have installed? Maybe there is the problem?

Install Mdac 2.8 and all its components. After that thats when the bug occur.

This was the most important information!

OK, so I have installed http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/details...;displaylang=en

+ the update and really - the pictures in this .chm file are not displyed now and the error message appears.

All other .chm files are still displayed correctly.

So it is not clear whether the problem is in the Msseclnt.chm file itself or in something that was changed by MDAC 2.8 SP1. It will not be so easy to find what change has caused this new behavior:

92 files added

92 files modified

1637 registry entries added

49 registry entries deleted

428 registry entries modified

.....

are you going to try and fix it?

because its doing it with other help files too

I had no problem with other help files.

And I don't use MDAC anyway so I have no reason to fix anything.

try installing the latest unofficial HTML Help 1.41 patch from MDGx's web site. Delete the hh.exe, hhctrl.ocx, itircl.dll and itss.dll files and then install the updated HTML Help 1.41 program. The from Regedit, delete the

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility" registry key and go to Add/Remove programs, select Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Tools and choose the option to Repair Internet Explorer and restart the computer.

sometimes I do that in order to get some CHM Help files to work correctly. If following these tips do not work then there is definitely a problem with the Msseclnt.chm file.

I tryed your method and it still give me the error. Its another file thats

doing it also- mstsc.chm from Remote desktop. Its a bug in Mdac 2.8.

because they only occur after i install Mdac 2.8 + all updates.

same results with official/unofficial patches.

it might be other files also that display this message.
