Hi to all fellow MSFN'ers, I need help..

I currently have CRT 19" LG F900P monitor and I'm using it for working with web and games (UT2004)..

I'm planing to buy myself a new LCD monitor but don't know on which specification should I pay attention..

I know that 17" and 19" have the same resoloution and that 17" better shows this resolution (sharpest picture, or am I wrong)..

Now, I saw few monitors that looks good for me but I don't know are they really good..

Agree with everyone. I have several 920n out in the field,

everyone likes them and the price is good.

Your old CRT 19" has a diag. size of 17.6" to 18.0".

LCD's by law have to be the stated size. i.e. 19" diag.

Please bear in mind that LCD's have an "optimal" setiing,

on the 920n it is 1280 x 1024 dpi.

If set at 800 x 600 it looks like crap.

Enjoy your new monitor.

:hello:

Please bear in mind that LCD's have an "optimal" setiing,

It's called the "native resolution". :)

If you run an LCD at anything other than it's native resolution they usually look pretty bad. We have some older Dell 1800FP's that don't have this problem with 1024x768 (native on them is 1280x1024)...but it's rare to find that.

Viewsonic's look horrible if you run them at anything other than their native.

IMO, you'd be best off looking at either a Dell or Samsung. I currently have two Samsung 241T's on my desk at work, and previous to that was two 213T's. Love 'em.

We recently got some Hyundai 19" LCDs and they look washed out compared to the other Dells and Samsungs we have.

550:1 contrast and 12ms

not that good but if u can get it for cheap...

where do u plan on buying it from?

Ok, I don't understand this contrast value, what is better, higher or lower value?

I don't get this contrast and brightness values..

I saw one nice samsung with Contrast 1000:1 and Brightness 250 cd/m2.. Is this good, or is this brithness to low?

i got my 19" a couple months ago, the Viewsonic VX924 from zipzoomfly. awesome monitor. :)

I agree that it is an awesome monitor, but I am on my 3rd one due to dead pixels, and this third one has dead subpixels... and the buggers wont replace it because it has to be more than 7, I guess something will fail on it shortly that will require warranty replacement.... B) SO be warned about Viewsonic.

Viewsonic's quality really has fallen off in the last couple of years. I've got a friend who purchased one of their 19" CRTs a few years ago. The original monitor had a crack on the upper right hand corner of the front plastic. He returned it to them three times...and all four monitors had a crack in the same spot (crack was different each time so it wasn't the same monitor he was getting back).

The last one eventually went bad...the picture looked like he was playing a 2.40:1 movie on a 4:3 screen and it couldn't be adjusted. He replaced it with a Samsung 19" CRT and has been happy ever since.
