Single Boot DVD of XP UNATTENDED

Recommended Posts

Hello again,

I have made my unattended XP Pro that resides in C:\XPCD

I'm having trouble in making a bootable DVD disc. I don't need a multi-boot and I cant seem to be able to make this bootable. I've created a .ISO with UltraISO and have burned everything to DVD but the message to press any key is not there when I run it through VirtualPC. Instead I get NTLDR is missing. I used a BOOT.IMA file that I googled from some web site. I know that that is probably my problem. So the real question goes like this: Is there a guide or a somewhat foolproof method of making a bootable DVD?? My total size of my unattended XP ISO is 1.82 gb. Should I start again and try to make another bootable iso???

I have MagicISO, UltraISO, Nero 7, Roxio EasyCD\DVD 6

PLease help. :(

Ok, I'm going to try that. I'm not making a bootable CD though. I want to make Bootable DVD

Ok, I've used my original xp cd and got the boot file made. I made the iso and now am burning it. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for that info.

Rats! It didn't work. I get "NTLDR is missing" I went into i386 to check and it is there but it doesn't have an extension it is just NTLDR, does that matter? Or is it something in bootable image properties I'm doing wrong??

What I would do is recompile your dvd, sounds like theres things missing ? could you tell me if your running it in vmware please. If you are I remember gettin the same error. If you delete the OS and make a new os in vmware it should work.

I no your making a boot dvd, its the same as a boot cd just you use a different media. good luck

LOL

I'm not using VMware. I'm trying something different. I'm trying CDImage do make my iso now with the bootimage i got from my XP cd. I loaded to setup screen on VirtualPC so it looks promising. Without the need to recompile. I will let you know. Thanks for your help.

So the real question goes like this: Is there a guide or a somewhat foolproof method of making a bootable DVD??

All you Intermediate and Advanced users neglect to browse the Beginning user section of the MSFN Unattended guide. :P

Goto unattended.msfn.org --> Beginning Users --> Finalizing and Testing the CD

This creates an iso that you can burn without any of your bootstrap files. This works for DVDs too.

Good luck with your project!

Kind regards

Casper

Get CDIMAGE.EXE from somewhere.

Put it in system32.

Get boot.bin from somewhere (sorry but I have no clue where my boot.bin even came from)

Put the boot.bin file into XPCD

Assuming your XPCD folder is on your C:\ drive,

put this text into a .cmd file...

start cdimage.exe -lLABEL -t04/23/2006,19:21:00 -h -j1 -m -o -b\XPCD\boot.bin \XPCD C:\XPCD_IMAGE.iso

Run that .cmd file on the root of your C:\ drive so

it is with the XPCD folder. LABEL is the ISO volume

label, -t is the timestamp (date+time) -b makes it

use the boot.bin file, last is your ISO name, here

called XPCD_IMAGE.iso. You can output the ISO

to any drive by changing the C:\XPCD_IMAGE.iso

part at the end, to any drive letter E.G. H:\XPCD_IMAGE.iso

This is good to maek it bootable, but still, I dunno a way

to make an ISO with cdimage NOT bootable! Haha, so its

good that we met then I guess. B)

Ok this is just plain weird. I have tried getting boot file from original xp cd, I have tried to use the boot file from CDImage made iso's using these files and they seem to work as an iso mounted to virtual DVD drive in VirtualPC but not when I burn to DVD. I've burned with MagicISO, UltraISO and the result when using burned DVD is the same. I do not get the prompt to boot from cd and NTLDR is missing. Something is NOT right. Suggestions?

Interestingly, in the text based dump of files to c:, there are problems with a few files to be copied to drive:

tosdvd.sys

tsbvcap.sys

tsbyuv.dll

usbcamd2.sys

usbcamd.sys

vdmindvd.sys

wowfax.dll

wowfaxui.dll

usrcentra.dll

usrcoina.dll

usrdpa.dll

usrdtea.dll

usrfaxa.dll

usrlbva.dll

usrmlnka.dll

usrprbda.exe

usrrtosa.dll

usrsdpia.dll

usrshuta.exe

usrsvpia.dll

etc. (tired of typing them out)

Uh, Friendly?? Who are you calling intermediate or experienced????

I'm above beginner but lower than intermediate!

I think I have genuine problems here with either my setup or my whole system or maybe even my brain... :thumbup

Incidentally, I love the guide here!!!!

Its called Microsoft Corporation.img but

I don't know if cdimage.exe supports IMG files

the same way it does BIN files, you can only try.

You cant just burn files and expect it to boot if

you don't make the ISO bootable, forget any

programs with a GUI - just do what I posted

with cdimage.exe. Have you even tried that?

If you can't get a boot.bin file from anywhere,

use Microsoft Corporation.img and RENAME IT

as boot.img - then use this code, but don't blame

me if it won't work - you should use a bin file...

...on second thoughts, setupldr.bin is the XP boot file

I am sure, I dunno, I hate it when this stuff goes wrong

so I stick to my method and don't swot up too much

on this now. :}

start cdimage.exe -lLABEL -t04/23/2006,19:21:00 -h -j1 -m -o -b\XPCD\boot.img \XPCD C:\XPCD_IMAGE.iso

level, I'm trying your method as I type. I'll keep my progress available to you. It seems that as soon as I burn it to DVD, things get screwy. mounting the iso virtually is only moderately better in that NTLDR missing message does NOT pop up.

]

Done making the ISO and now on to burning to DVD using MagicISO first.

The easiest way is to use Nlite. Download and install.

http://www.nliteos.com/download.html

Point it to your folder (c:\xpcd) and ONLY use the create ISO option.

It will automatically add the "boot" section the CD/DVD.

(You may want to look at all the other things it will do,

i.e. Integrate RyanVM updates etc.)

Use Nero/Roxio or anything that will burn from an ISO.

You should be able to double click the *.ISO file and you burner

program should auto start.

I use this all the time to do exactly what your trying to do,

create Microsoft bootable CD's and DVD's

:hello:

I'm beginnig to think this has nothing to do with making my ISO. I think it has more to do with my c:\xpcd

I put in a spare old drive that has nothing on it and booted up with my DVD and the result is just like mounting in VirtualPC. It does the dump to c:\ with some files being unable to be copied. Do you think I should copy my XP cd into c:\XPCD again?
