I'm sorry guys i posted the wrong ?

I meant how do i change the start button logo

i did it in eplorer.exe but nothing has change.

Once again sorry for the wrong post.

The Start button logo is an icon inside %windir%\SYSTEM\USER.EXE .

Open USER.EXE [backed up copy] in Exescope [shareware]:

http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA003525/emysoft.htm#6

and replace the icons you want from the icon group 105.

Those icons must [usually] be of same size and number of colors:

1: 32x32 16 colors

2: 10x10 16 colors

3: 14x14 16 colors

4: 12x12 16 colors

5: 16x16 16 colors

6: 22x22 16 colors

Create/edit icons [iCO format] in:

- Muangelo [shareware]:

http://www.microangelo.us/

- IconEdit32 [538 KB, freeware]:

http://gwdu05.gwdg.de/samba/windows/html/iedit32.zip

- Free Icon Studio [2.57 MB, freeware]:

http://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/win95/...eiconstudio.exe

Link to TClock is broken. Site seems to be gone, I get a 404 error. I found this mirror for who likes to try it.

http://www.brothersoft.com/desktop_utiliti...clock_7739.html

Hmmm. Strange...

I just accessed the original Tclock site:

http://homepage1.nifty.com/kazubon/tclock/

and worked ok.

Sorry, my mistake, I have not been clear. I can reach the site too, but the downloads (all) don't work.

Just this week I've started to play with ResHacker. I know almost nothing about the program, so my question may be a dumb one. Here goes anyway.... Can you use ResHacker to do what you're describing above?

No, you can't use Resource Hacker [RH] to do what is described above, because RH only edits 32-bit executables [PEs], not 16-bit.

That's why Exescope is for, edits also 16-bit PEs.

And USER.EXE in all 9x/ME OSes is a 16-bit PE.

Thanks for the heads up, my mistake, I didn't bother to try the actual links to files. :(

But I found a newer version [TClock2] and also a newer build of old TClock [2.2.9 = 000105en98.zip below], and if you have WinXP, check out TClock Lite + LClock:

* TClock2 v1.20 32-bit for Windows 9x/NT4/2000/ME/2000/XP/2003 displays the

date and time in the Taskbar Tray, changes Start button/icon, Start Menu

color/bitmap, highly customizable (free GPL):

Thanks, I didn't know about these 3 icon tools.

Appears that they are all free(ware).

BTW:

IconLab works just fine under 98/ME [with GDIPLUS.DLL], even if the author says it is only for NT4/2000/XP/2003. I did not try IconLab under Win95.

I've added them here:

You may want to check out these icon editors [all linked at URL above]:

I know them all thanks and do not like them too much. Mostly I use Articons 2.2 that I have from an old PC Plus Cover CD. Microangelo Librarian is excellent I found when I tried the demo but that's all I fancy in it.

I'll try to cook you a little list of very good and usefull freebies that I haven't seen listed on your site and that I find quite invaluable if you don't mind.

BTW there is a clone of IconLab called Ilco :

http://www.mintrasystems.com/products/mint...duct.php?p=iico

I think it's because they are both based on the full source code of the application that is available somewhere on net. Code Project or similar site.
