Need Opinion on New Video Card

Howdy everyone!

I am in need of some opinions regarding a new video card for my desktop.

I found this one on newegg, and I just wanted to know if anyone had any experience with Sapphire before, and things like that.

Or, feel free to recommend something else.

I'm a man on a very tight budget, $150-ish being the upper limit. I like that card because it has 512 MB of memory. I realize that it is the slower GDDR2, but at $130 + shipping..... Also, dual monitor (alas, I have nothing with DVI, just 2 CRT's) is a must. S-Video would be nice, and composite is always enjoyable. Oh, and it has to be pci-express, because I don't have an AGP port.

I like the ATI X1600 series chips, but i wil admit that I know nothing about nVidia's lineup, so for all you nVidia guys, what is similar to the x1600?

Thank you much.

the 7600gt is a good choice, but if that is too much for u, then get the 7600gs

Would the 7600GT preform better than my 6800GS? If so i'll just put in for evga's stepup and get it. I started to get that to begin with but everyone told me the 6800 was the best bang for the buck so thats what i got....

I still would say the 6800GS again, also after reading this review. Check it out, also the X1600 cards are there ;).

EDIT: Even the 7600GT has to pull hard to win from the 6800GS, to bad the 6800GS has 12 lines and not 16, but still it kicks a** :). (Man, I loved the 6800NU/LE AGP cards when they came out for 200US$ OEM, unlocked it and smoked it ;)).

EDIT2: 1600XT can be an option too, 149 bucks...

i would go for the 7000 series

Yes, of course you would.

ubergeek, I would recommend the GeForce 6800GS. It really is powerful for the price. Other cards that appear better on the market still have difficulty rising to this card's occasion. The guys I work with at a tech shop, who know their s$%^, like this card. It's inexpensive, and if you're playing anything from HL2 to FEAR, you won't be disappointed, I promise you. In HL2 with 2xAA and everything else set to high, I get 150-200 FPS, depending on what is on the screen (sky, wall, ground, many enemies, etc).

Be nice! I would also have said the same, but the 7600GT is just the sucessor of the 6600GT ;) and above the 200 US$.

u posted this site where the 7800gt beat the 6800gs just a little, and both cards cost the same, so why do u say to get the 6800gs?

this is a kinda mixed one

7600GT you are talking about, not the 7800GT ;)... and the 7600GT is an other 30 to 40 bucks more. The nVidia 6800GS and the ATI 1600XT are the best in the 150-180 US$ range I beleve, especialy if you don´t play games higher then 1024x768.

The 7600GT I posted is only $10 more than the 6800GS you posted. And after $15 mail-in rebate it comes in at $5 less. :)

Personally, I would save a little extra cash and get the 7600GT. It's a much more efficient architecture. Plus from what I've read the 7600GT based cards overclock like crazy...in which case they would leave the 6800GS in the dust.

I've got a BFG Tech 6800GT OC in my machine that I've had since they came out. I love the card but as soon as I upgrade later this year it's definitely going to get replaced with a 7900 series card (or whatever is out at the time...the G80 was supposed to have taped out already but missed the deadline). It's going to be a while yet because I'm waiting on Conroe. I think my P4EE 3.4 can hold me until then. :)

First you got a link of a 7600GS.... ..., but yes, 174 bucks would be a good deal and I would indeed say go for the 7600GT, altrough you have to pay 189 first. Nice finding, didn´t see that one, only some cards of 209 bucks or so. :thumbup

EDIT: Stange, you didn´t edit your post after it , I´m sure it was a 7600GS ...

From looking at those reviews and taking into consideration that i only play games at 1024 since i only have a 17" monitor, I'm sticking with my new 6800GS for a while. Evga was out of stock on the 7600gt i was going to step up to anyway and besides i heard you get a refurbished card back. I will however upgrade to a 76 or a 78/79 when income tax time comes around next year :D

Judging from the reviews on newegg the 7600gt doesnt overclock that well not that it really matters to me anyway. I usually dont overclock i just pay a bit extra to get the superclocked versions.

@theubergeek

I'd go for the 7600GT. Save up some cash and get that. You'll be happy cause it's really what i should have got instead of a 6800GS.... :/
