Team929
Ah!!! I freakin hate onboard video!!!!!I have a co-worker whose(who's???) computer has onboard video(by D3LL) that is causing some problems. specs:-PIII 566/128ram/7Gig-ish/Win2000wrkstn-Onboard video... pretty much everything onboard.done:-removed old video driver. Added new card (Matr0x G450)result:-hangggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg on boot. It gets to the Win2000 screen with the logo and the blue progression bar and when the progression bar gets to full, it hangs. I was under the impression that this onboard video would be disabled when a new card is added. (I guess not, huh...). I asked the mfg about this and they say it is not "guaranteed" that it would be disabled... what a freakin answer. Anyhow, I'm thinking to update the bios but would like to ask if there is another way. If there is another thing I can try, I would really appreciate any advice. thanx in advance. cantoris
Hi!I presume from your mention of a BIOS update that there is no option in there currently to disable the onboard graphics?See if your system will boot in "VGA Mode" (one of the options on the F8 menu). If so, then you can go into device manager and try disabling the onboard device to see if that solves the problem.Another possibility is to try booting in Safe Mode to see if that will let you disable it in the same way.If both of these techniques still hang during boot, you could remove the Matrox card, boot as usual and then try disabling the device in device manager before shutting down and putting the Matrox back in! Really not sure what will happen there but I'd be nervously giving it a try!! The problem being if the disable works but the system still hangs with the G450 then how do you get the onboard enabled again...!Best wishes,Andrew
Porn Loader
i had the same problem on a dell optiplex.to fix it i had to hot swap the monitor cable. let the machine boot on the video card, wait till it freezes, swap the monitor cable to the onboard....once win2k loads up, right click the desk, goto properties, and select the matrox as primary..hope that works for you... Computer Commando
Unfortunately, Win2k does not have dual monitor support. If it did, this would all be a lot easier. If you're lucky, doing what Porn Loader suggests will work. I've done the same thing on a Compaq (no BIOS accessibility) and it worked...once. If you have no success, try the Matrox card in a difference PCI slot, this sometimes makes a difference.
Sunil
You should take the card out and reseat it in a another slot, then start in safe mode remove the drivers and restart, see it windows will detect the card, or if it will start..Sunil
CBay
Windows 2000 does have dual (multiple) monitor support. The rub is all of your hardware must be identical.http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...us;238886#Task1 It also supports 3rd party solutions to Multi monitor support:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;162928I agree, you may want to try the Matrox in another slot.. generally the 1st PCI slot (depending on the Mobo mfr) may be slated for primary Aux sound cards. If you pop the VC into slot 2-3 and on.. you should be cool.
