Gape, can you hold off in releasing the next release of the 98se SP?

See my topic about "CacheWriteDelay" registry value:

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=67785

I mentioned there that the REG files delay2.reg, delay4.reg, delay8.reg and nodelay.reg

should be added into the next release of the 98se service pack. The Q273017 update

for Win98 SE installs those four REG files into the 'WINDOWS\INF\QFE\273017' folder.

Installing the Win98se service pack creates the "CacheWriteDelay" registry value

and sets it to 2000, which may not be for all Win98se users out there. Some Win98se

users will need to change this value after installing the Win98se SP to something more

appropriate for the size of the HD. Those using small HDs should set "CacheWriteDelay"

to 0. Those using very large HDs [137Gb or higher] should set it to 4000 or 8000.

The newer U891711 fix for Win98/ME now has KB891711.exe version 4.10.2225 but is

dated 10/4/2005, the SAME EXACT date as version 4.10.2224 of the KB891711.exe file from

the previous release of U891711. Looks like the author of U891711 forgot to change

the date of the newer build of KB891711.exe. I had to make the change so that

version 4.10.2225 of the KB891711.exe file is dated 2/11/2006 instead of the older date

from the previous build. that guy needs to do a better job dating and versioning files so that Win98/ME users can easily distinguish between newer and older builds of files.

MDGx has now posted the updated U891711 patch with the corrected date for version 4.10.2225 of the KB891711.exe file:

Also, Gape can you include the fp4awec.dll file into the 98se SP? This file is from the Web Folders KB892211 update and the FP4AWEC.DLL file is installed into the 'Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\40\BIN' folder. Win98se originally has an older version of this file.

Gape,

1 quick question:

For the Windows 2000 theme option that's going to be in the next version, what about the My Documents icon? Is that going to be changed as well to the 2000/ME icon?

Good job on the Service Pack, Gape!
