Kranie
I applied the regtweaks listed below, to get rid of the balloon tips, but I'd like Windows to tell me when it's safe to remove my USB pen drive...Can I keep just that one ballon tip and still lose the others ?Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00;; Disable Balloon Tips and Tour;[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]"EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000000[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]"FolderContentsInfoTip"=dword:00000000[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\tips]"Show"=dword:00000000[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]"StartButtonBalloonTip"=dword:00000000[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]"ShowInfoTip"=dword:00000000[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]"NoSMBalloonTip"=dword:00000000[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Tour]"RunCount"=dword:00000000[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Tour]"RunCount"=dword:00000000
BlueMe
You can't keep a single ballon tip !What would that mean then ? A reg. entry for every single baloon tip ?
Kranie
I'd like to know when it's safe to remove the USB stick, but at the same time I don't want notifications about, let's say low harddisk space...Is this possible ?
maxXPsoft
Been awhile since i looked at this but I think its coded into a .dll so only way would be to hack that and remove what you don't want and pray they don't update the dll tomorrow.
saintsfanbrian
Kranie - does your USB Pen drive have a light that flashes on it when it is being accessed? If so, when the light is not flashing, it should be okay to remove the drive. Or if you use the "Safely Remove Hardware" applet in the system tray. Once the device no longer shows you should be safe to remove it.
ophiel
exactly what brian said, and if you make sure that write-caching is disabled for removable drives you can safely remove it ANY time that the drive isn't being used...even without using the "safely remove hardware" option
