LLXX
Use expand command to decompress it. The EX_ is a compressed version.
l0cke
so I would go (in repair console)expand -r f:/I386/explorer.ex_ [c:/windows/explorer.exe] Edited February 1, 2006 by l0cke

Kelsenellenelvian
Boot into safe mode, expand the good explorer, rename the current explorer to explorer.bak and place the new one in the directory...
hougtimo
or do what any sensible person, like me does, and use program Manager as your shell.
JoeMSFN
so I would go (in repair console)expand -r f:/I386/explorer.ex_ [c:/windows/explorer.exe]Me thinks you need to drop the []'s and the -r.Try expand f:/I386/explorer.ex_ c:/windows/explorer.exe Edited February 1, 2006 by JoeMSFN
Sonic
Or you can try this too (long way ^^) :del c:\windows\explorer.execopy f:\i386\explorer.ex_ c:\windows\expand -r c:\windows\explorer.ex_del c:\windows\explorer.ex_
l0cke
i tried expand f:/I386/explorer.ex_ c:/windows/explorer.exeand got the same error
LLXX
Either boot into command prompt and do it there, or use the Task Manager to kill all the explorer.exe process, run cmd.exe (get the command prompt) and do it there, then restart explorer. You can't replace it while it's in use (i.e. your GUI is operating)....and they're supposed to be back\slashes.expand f:\i386\explorer.ex_ c:\windows\explorer.exe Edited February 2, 2006 by LLXX

PM me if you have oneAll the member above doing it wrong. The command is:expand f:\I386\explorer.ex_ -r c:\windows\You have only to give the path to extract. -r is important as it will automatically rename the file. And it will not work until you are in safe mode (with command promt). Edited February 4, 2006 by pawan
