Hi there - just running some tests on V1 of SOF and have found that after installing FF on the new machine that the profile information etc is missing and no themes have been applied and no bookmarks. I have checked and the themes are installed as are the extensions... but they haven't been applied...

Suggestions please?

Also another mirror for download here http://www.simplify-i-t.com/guides/filelib/Sof.zip

Sof copies files to your profile and main directory according to inifile.Check your ini file for what are you copying.Also at copy my files section check that copying is successful.After copying check again that it is your setting file.You should give me more details because I have tested several times and my files are copied and extensions are installed.

This looks like an interesting tool.

Since starting my uA project, I have always repackaged the Firefox and Thunderbird installers to silently install them. I have been able to successfully copy across all of my data (I don't currently use any themes or extensions) for Thunderbird, but have yet to find a working solution to copy anything in Firefox save my bookmarks. It's something of an annoyance, since with Firefox I do make use of a few extensions, and thus far I have had to reinstall and reconfigure them each time I run the uA installation.

I will test this out and see if it can't help resolve my frustrations.

For those who are having difficulty with Thunderbird data, I install mine using a seperate SFX archive of the %appdata%\Thunderbird folder that gets extracted after Thunderbird has installed. The practical upside to this is that I don't have to rebuild the installer every time I re-install Thunderbird, I can just update the data SFX.

Another strange thing is that I normally use SFX archive to extract flash plugin files into plugins dir, now when using sof, flash files are extracted but I can't view flash in browser.

Settings and bookmarks still don't work.

I don't know where I should look for my files after copying, there are no prefs.js bookmarks.html and mimeTypes.rdf inside .\Sof\Project\Firefox dir.

There was no Profile folder in the Firefox dir and it was because there was a file named profile (no extension, just 'profile') and when I tryed to create the folder Profile manualy I got the error of the same name as profile (file). After removing profile file from Project\Firefox I created the folder and after clicking 'Copy my files', prefs.js bookmarks.html and mimeTypes.rdf were copied. I'm wondering what's wrong with the profile file, the content was:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<RDF:RDF xmlns:NC="http://home.netscape.com/NC-rdf#"
xmlns:RDF="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#">
<RDF:Description RDF:about="urn:mimetype:handler:application/x-msdos-program"
NC:alwaysAsk="true"
NC:saveToDisk="true">
<NC:externalApplication RDF:resource="urn:mimetype:externalApplication:application/x-msdos-program"/>
</RDF:Description>
<RDF:Description RDF:about="urn:mimetypes">
<NC:MIME-types RDF:resource="urn:mimetypes:root"/>
</RDF:Description>
<RDF:Seq RDF:about="urn:mimetypes:root">
<RDF:li RDF:resource="urn:mimetype:application/x-msdos-program"/>
</RDF:Seq>
<RDF:Description RDF:about="urn:mimetype:application/x-msdos-program"
NC:value="application/x-msdos-program"
NC:editable="true"
NC:fileExtensions="exe"
NC:description="Application">
<NC:handlerProp RDF:resource="urn:mimetype:handler:application/x-msdos-program"/>
</RDF:Description>
<RDF:Description RDF:about="urn:mimetype:externalApplication:application/x-msdos-program"
NC:prettyName=""
NC:path="" />
</RDF:RDF>

I removed this file in order to create Profile folder.

Now everything seems to work corectly.

And one more question: I always disable bookmark toolbar in View menu but this option is not included in copied files. What files do I have to copy to include View settings?

Cheers

The Forecastfox extension won't work with this program. I think it probably has something to do with the extension popping up a dialog box the first time you open Firefox after installing it. Whenever I open Firefox after using the silent installer with Forecastfox in it I get the attached error message and I have to go past it twice every time I open Firefox. It wasn't much fun uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox to figure this out but now I know. I've got my core extensions so it should be a problem for me in the future. I just wanted to warn anyone else who might come upon this problem.

If I'd been smarter I would have just removed extensions from within Firefox until I found the offending one but I suppose hindsight is 20/20 :lol:

So yes, If you install an extension that does something like this removing it in Firefox will fix the problem.

  • 4 weeks later...

inside the installer (thunderbird) there are two xpi files, namely talkback.xpi (some 2MB) and xpcom.xpi (smaller i think). I'd like to know about their roles. Are there any problems if I just take them out of the installer to get smaller size?

Hi thanks for the great app.

I am having a problem getting my themes and extensions to reinstall. I am copying the raw files that I have DL'd via a rick click save as. The theme is a .jar file and the extensions are .xpi.

I have put them in the theme and extensions folders under project/

I noticed in the readme that it says to enter [projectid] I have no clue where to get this, and I assume that is why it isnt working for me?

Thanks for reading
