BoardBabe Posted January 28, 2006 Author Posted January 28, 2006 RogueSpear: Thank you for clearing that up. Applying this .reg file at cmdlines.txt or later will work perfectly fine indeed
BoardBabe Posted January 28, 2006 Author Posted January 28, 2006 The list is now updated with a few new domains and a couple dead removed.
DigeratiPrime Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 like others have suggested the hosts file seems the best way to go. and dont forget forget to disable DNS service.instructions on that here:http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
RogueSpear Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 like others have suggested the hosts file seems the best way to go. and dont forget forget to disable DNS service.instructions on that here:http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htmI would say that it's closer to being the worst way to go. And disable DNS? Yea disable it if you don't want to your computer to be able to resolve domain names to IP addresses (ie - web browse).
BoardBabe Posted January 29, 2006 Author Posted January 29, 2006 like others have suggested the hosts file seems the best way to go.I don't think it is... And I've explained why in previous post
Nightlord Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Correct me if I'm wrong...but isn't the HOSTS file slow as hell? The computer checks it every time you access a webpage, thus slowing down the browsing process.
RogueSpear Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 It's easy enough to test it out yourself. Give it a shot. Just reboot after changing the file over. The first thing you should notice is that it takes forever and a day for your NIC to initialize.
DigeratiPrime Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 i use the same host file on several machines, ive noticed no performance hit anywhere.
BoardBabe Posted January 29, 2006 Author Posted January 29, 2006 Well, they really work kinda differently (hostfile and domain blocklist), so it kinda belongs in it's own topic and ultimately its only what you preferre to use that matters.
seapagan Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 @BoardBabe:Thanks for this, added to my uA CD Great Work!SP

BoardBabe Posted January 29, 2006 Author Posted January 29, 2006 Bad Sector: 8100+ actually , thank you! Thank you seapagan PS. If you experience sites with adware/spyware/malware/trojans/redirectors/mass popups etc please do post the domains here and I will validate and add them to the list!Eg. If you experience webpages opening from running files downloaded from P2P networks, or applications on your computers showing unwated adds, please note the domain. The list will grow with (bad?) experience...
