a suggestion regarding Flags

Molecule

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I'm learning how ignorant I am … I see so many "new" flags next to people's names, and some I can't find what country that flag represents -- try a google on "flag with [any description of your choice]"

I was wondering if it might be possible to add a small mouseover tip to each flag icon, to name the country? (it might make a nice task for a beginning board coder)

Best Regards, and great work in keeping up the board.

indeed a nice idea. dunno how hard it would be to implement it though.

heres a site with a bunch of flags, http://www.atlasgeo.net/flags/Eindex.htm that i use for looking up the flags here..

example would be Martin's Flag.. the image is nl.gif i went to the site under n-o and looked for red white and blue in horizontal lines. and saw hes from the netherlands.

then again.. i could've looked where it says "From: The Netherlands" LOL.

It would be OK if members filled in "My Controls"

Personal Profilenav_m_dark.gif Edit Profile Information "Your Location"

Mine says "Western Australia", but if I was in Tasmania, should say Tasmania - Australia.

But mousing over the flag with the country would be good. And there are new countries of late.

Good suggestion, but involves too much work dis-proportionate to functionality.

Also, mouse-overs in IE dont work the same way on Mozilla which dont work the same way on Opera....

So its a lot of effort - which has to be done again after every board upgrade.

Maybe this should be a job for the author of this hack?

Anyways, I simply right-click the flag & see image properties, file-name.

So if it says "uk.gif" then i know which country it refers to.

For countrynames which I dont know, I simply search google for the short-form which I found from image file-name.

Not true, depending on what kind of mouseover the author was talking about.

I considered the author was referring to the mouse over text, also referered to alternate text for when an image doesn't load. This can be done simply by adding in the ALT="" and TITLE="" attributes within the IMG tags, and it will work on ALL browsers.
