SilverHaze420 Posted January 7, 2006 Share Posted January 7, 2006 So I have MSDN thru my job and downloaded vista and tried to burn it on 2 diff DVD's on 2 diff download times. On my laptop it boots to the DVD but I get an error on my PC it will not even boot. Is there anyway to get Vista on CD instead? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
fizban2 Posted January 8, 2006 Share Posted January 8, 2006 If you have a copy of the corrosponding version of ximage you could break the WIM image into cd parts and then burn to CD, not sure what else would be needed in this scenerio since i don't have access to the new ximage to test with yet, but that is really the only choice, try burning on a different computer and with a DVD from a different spindle Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

suryad Posted January 12, 2006 Share Posted January 12, 2006 The fact that Vista is going to be released on DVD should sound ominous cause that probably means there is going to be a lot of bloat and nLite for Vista if it does come out will be quite busy getting rid of bloatware! You're going to get WinCal, Defender, IE 7, WMP 11, Media Center, etc, etc. Of course it is going to be a bigger install.Most complete Linux distributions span several CDs and OS X is on DVDs now. suryad Posted January 12, 2006 Share Posted January 12, 2006 Great point raskren. It is just that a standard professional XP cd install is what 600 mb? That is quite a jump from 600 mb to 2 gigs! Surely WindCal, Defender, IE7, WMP11, etc etc are not going to result in that big of an install!!! Unless the server functionality and all that enterprise stuff is going to be included in it as well! fizban2 Posted January 13, 2006 Share Posted January 13, 2006 Suryad, the DVD that you get has Vista, vista standard or lite (can't remeber the name), the tablet edition vista and longhorn server all on one DVD. that all come in at 2 gig for 4 different OS's. if you look at it that way 4 x 600 mb (xp size os) that should be 2.4 gig. so actually they have cut 400 meg out already AND have added many new features.
