Hello all supporters, what do you think about the future of the Unofficial Service pack for Windows 98 SE?

The latest list of changes from Gape is dated Mon, 20 Feb 2006 15:22:46 +0200:

* Added Q897225 [REG].

* Added MSHDC.INF [Q276602].

* Added KBDSP.KBD (Q......).

* Added Q305575 [REG].

* Added "LocalLoadHigh=1" into TWEAKS.INF.

* Added unofficial updates: KRNL386.EXE, UPDATE.SYS, VOLTRACK.VXD (Q.....), GDI.EXE+GDI32.DLL (Q......).

* Added README.TXT.

* Added OLE2.INF, RNA.INF, TIMEZONE.INF, SHELL.INF into SP2.CAB for better slipstreaming.

* Added EXPLORER.EXE (only modified for 256 color tray icons) into SP2.CAB.

* Added fix for properties pause.

* Updated VIP.386 [Q263899].

* Updated KB891711.EXE [u891711-Feb2005].

* Updated Metapad to 3.51.

* Updated ASYCFILT.DLL, OLEPRO32.DLL, STDOLE2.TLB [to 4526].

* Updated INFEX.EXE to 0.5.

* Removed RUNPOST.BAT.

* Removed GETVER.EXE.

* Removed modified EXPLORER.EXE and SHELL32.DLL from SUPP.CAB.

* Replaced CRLUPD.EXE and ROOTSUPD.EXE with CRLUPD.CAB and ROOTSUPD.CAB.

* Replaced TWEAKUI.* with TWEAKUI.CAB.

* "Windows 2000 Color Scheme" is "Windows 2000 Theme" now, and it installs both the color scheme and desktop icons.

* Cleanup the SPUPDATE.INF code.

* Moved SYSTRAY.EXE and HOTPLUG.DLL from SP2.CAB to SUPP.CAB (added modified SHELL.INF for this).

* Moved ITIRCL.DLL, ITSS.DLL from SUPP.CAB to SP2.CAB.

* Moved "MaxFileCache" setting into the INFEX.INI, now it only installs if you have 512+ MB of RAM.

I think I will release this as 2.5 BETA 1, because I want to work on

better slipstreaming (+removing more files from SUPP.CAB, especially

HTML Help), also I have a great idea for uninstallation method [but

this will increase the size of the package about 5 MB!].

Some notes:

* T2EMBED.DLL is for only IE 5.5+ ?

* What do you think about Paint filters ( http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#PNT ) ?

* What do you think about erpdude8's this suggestion ( http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=67785) ?

* Should "fix of Windows Explorer Freeze" be optional ?

* Any more idea?

Since Gape is not replying for about half a year we should either to decide to continue or to bury this project.

As I mentioned in Future development of 98/SE/Me service packs it would be good to focuse on core functions and consolidate service packs for 98, 98SE, Me and maybe even 95 to have the same structure, and to use new installer with 100% uninstall with recovery of all files and registry entries. It must be 100% safe for everyone.

So - how to continue?
