shell32 & others on xp x64

i was modifing shell32.dll/logonui/iexplore.exe and others for my win xp x64 when i notices there is a syswow64 folder now, besides system32.

i notices many of the files i have to modify, are in BOTH folders, some are the same size, some aren-t.

i was wondering, in the root of the x64 cd, there is an i386 folder, and an amd64 folder.

are the files that go in syswow64 suposed to come from amd64 and the ones on system32 from i386 ?
