BoardBabe Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Found that Windows Update shows two new updates for my machingMicrosoft Base Smart Card Cryptographic Service Provider Package: x86 (KB909520)andWindows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474)Where can I download these to include on my ua media? And how are they installed?
druiddk Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Hi BoardBabe,You can find the norwegian version here:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...77-2ea6b45b41c6I dont think we will be able to get the WGA from download.microsoft.com :-(
BoardBabe Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 Ok, wow another EXTREMLY annoying feature by MS.Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474) is a tray icon that tells you wether you run a genuine XP key or not. Annoying use of resources and looks ugly! Is there any way to fool WU/MU to think you have it installed, so it don't show up on critical updates? I really hate this little trayicon thingy!
BoardBabe Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 (edited) @druiddk: Thank's for the link. For KB905474, this is a cricital update. My machine is set to automaticly download and install critical updates, but this one I would like to exclude, is that possible? (Maybe there's a way to set it to be hidden in WindowsUpdate.log or similar?) Edited November 30, 2005 by BoardBabe
RyanVM Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Weird, I'm not seeing KB905474 on MU on my system...
BoardBabe Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 Maybe It's only out for Norwegian XP versions atm?Public 29.11.05
cluberti Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Not even on the microsoft.com website yet...
Mercury_22 Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 (edited) Not even on the microsoft.com website yet... They are "Optional software updates" you need to select "custom" updateMicrosoft Base Smart Card Cryptographic Service Provider Package(KB909520)Windows Media Connect 2.0 (KB909993) Edited November 30, 2005 by Mercury_22
BoardBabe Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 (edited) Lol, are you saying im lying?Uh... why would I do that?Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474) is real and available at Microsoft and Windows Update for Norwegian Windows XP. It's a small tool that checks to see if you running a valid windows key and shows as a tray icon and a HUGE notification on logon/logoff screen with systemhalting dialog informing you IF you run a invalid XP key. This thing is ALL over the place telling you its a pirated version IF you have a pirated XP, that ofcourse I don't As far as I have found there is no way to uninstall after you have installed this update. Here's a picture of the update appearing on Microsoft Update from today for you who dubt me -Notice it appears under Critical Updates ("Høyt Prioriterte oppdateringer" in Norwegian)KB905474 Edited November 30, 2005 by BoardBabe

cluberti Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 They are "Optional software updates" you need to select "custom" updateI'm not that dumb . But they reference KB articles (hence the KBxxxxxx in the name), but the KB articles don't exist...
BoardBabe Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 @Mercury_22: I would'nt have asked in the first post if I knew it, now would I?
cluberti Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 I find nothing on the major search engines for either "Windows Genuine Advantage Notification" or "KB905474". So, this is odd.
Mercury_22 Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 @Mercury_22: I would'nt have asked in the first post if I knew it, now would I? When you click "Detaljer" what is happening? (links?)
BoardBabe Posted December 1, 2005 Author Posted December 1, 2005 @Mercury_22:At the link in the details window I am just redirected to the information page about WGA. So it seems there are no page for it yet.Back to original topic, anyway to hide this update? So my windows don't auto download and install it..
