Zxian
That's the thing about Linux... if you can't find drivers for something, you may end up having to write them yourself. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if no-one's been able to help you at the Ubuntu forums, I doubt that you'll find much help here...

suryad
Good luck. I would think now that your mobile phone software should be compatible for Linux to make this whole infrared thing work. But I dont know if there is anything like that. What kind of a mobile phone are you using?

suryad
Nice phone. Check the webiste to see if they have Linux compatible softwares or not. That should tell you. If not then check if end users have a Linux compatible software made specifically for your phone thru forum searching. Thats about all I know buddy. First things firstIRDA is available on linux, it was detected and is running... you can use any phone that has an IRDA connection with it, there are linux programs that you can install and use.Go here for more information about IRDA and mobile phones http://tuxmobil.org/phones_linux_mobile_con.htmlI have BlueTooth and not IRDA so I can't really help you on that one, but this site should help you out a bit:http://irda.sourceforge.net/Enjoy Linux, and don't get scared of the fact that running linux is different, it just takes time to get used to I've been using linux for 5+ years now at home (I use Windows at work) and I haven't had any trouble with it at all... I'm a RedHat person myself and now run Fedora Core 4 But I ran the LiveCD of Ubuntu and it seems to be really excellent for users new to linux, so yeah!!Heres another good site for information on your K700http://www.lysator.liu.se/~torkel/computer/k700/files.htmlhttp://www.hentges.net/misc/k700i/index.shtml Edited November 3, 2005 by undeadsoldier

Zxian
You can run Gnome in Suse. You can run any desktop environment in just about every modern distro (I think). All you need to do is install the right packages. It's all about apt-get.
EchoNoise
You can run any window manager in any linux distro...Apt-Get is for Debian based Distros such as the known ubuntu and debian itselfYum is for RPM Based Distros such as RedHat and the suchAll linux distros support source compiling, thats the best way to do it, because you can remove stuff from programs you don't want or don't use, so yeah I wouldn't say I'm a guru I just knowledgeable.... plus those people on Ubuntu-Forums are really mean, and aren't very helpful, I should know, I got banned for asking a simple question... lmao
