Chozo4
I've occassionally thought about Neptune, but wasn't that the OS with only 2 builds. As I recall it was cancelled completely before it made it to beta. There are a few copies of neptune floating around. Even tried it myself and am currently running it on another home pc here (200mhz but not win98 so it's irrelevant in this topic) . Functions pretty nicely despite being mostly windows 2k. So it definately made beta but was eventually leaked. There were actually 3 builds leaked.Anyway.. specs for myself are:Primary PC [gaming/coding/the works]AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (2.4ghz) (tiny OC to 2.5ghz)EPoX EP-9NDA3J MoboS3 Savage 2000 /mv (64mb) [AKA: Diamond Viper Z-200]640mb DDR400 (PC3200) SDRAMYamaha YMF-724 Soundcard (32-bit) [Too attached to ditch this card - beautiful midi emulation & sound]80gb WD Caviar (E-IDE) [soon to be swapped out for a 180gb WD - SATA]*Dirty install - Ghosted install from my tertiary pc. Only wiped the ENUM branch after ghosting.Secondary PC [Laptop/Webserver]Toshiba Satellite A15-S157 notebookIntel Celeron (2.2ghz)512mb PC2600 DDR SDRAM40gb Toshiba HD*clean install <2 years agoTertiary PC [Fileserver/Old Primary PC]AMD K6-II @ 500mhzEPoX EP-MVP3C MoboS3 Savage 3D /MV (7.5mb)448mb PC100 SDRAMSoundblaster Soundcard - ISA (32-bit) [used to be used together with the Yamaha card above]8.4gb Fujitsu HD (E-IDE)160gb Maxtor (E-IDE) hard disk*Clean install >5 years agoAll running purely windows 98SE. I could use any OS I want but win98se is my prime choice and always will be for my personal use. Also, yes.. there is a bit of a trend going between my Primary and Tertiary PC's as far as Motherboard, CPU, and GFX is concerned. Alsways relied on AMD, EPoX and S3. ssmokee
I doubt any Audigy drivers suport this mode. I have an SB AWE64 gold - I wonder how good it is? - but its ISA only so I haven't used it yet I was able to with an SB AWE32. I forget where I found it, but it was a util named AWEUTIL.COM. Anyways, I set it up pretty quick (on top of the normal autoexec.bat setttings for a SB16) and I did get the full wave table synthesis effects (tested using doom2 and decent).I think this is all I needed to get it going (no idea what the "SET SOUND=A:\DOS" actually does though).SET SOUND=A:\DOSSET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E MODE:0SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 E620 T6LH AWEUTIL.COM /S Edited October 28, 2005 by ssmokee
ssmokee
Only wiped the ENUM branch after ghosting.I do the same thing when installing a 98se image originally built on different hardware (has worked great for me). Would you happen to know of an equivalent method for win2k? It doesnt have an HKLM/Enum key in the registry. I am aware of sysprep, but Im not real fond of it because when I tried it out, it changed all the various settings I spent ~30 min setting up back to their defaults . nil
Win98SE is on a GA-7VRXP w/Duron 1100 +256mb DDR and GF4-440. I can live with the hardware (desperately need more ram though) and I'm as happy with Win98 as I'm ever going to be with an MS OS. But I desperately need new socks. -I-
on every machine, that has spect below 266mhz and 64MB (or less) ram, and harddisk up top 5gb any systems with higher spect will either be running NT4 (if either ram is more than 64, or cpu more than 266mhz)and from, 450 + 128mb ram and at least 6gb harddisk - choice on either windows 2000 or slackware linux. but i realy am confused seeing people, run 9x windows versions on any system with more than 2gh or even 512mb ram, - dont you guys know windows ME is only cabable of efficiently using up to 128 per thread and mutithreaded tasks are NO option for such an OS... i do find it BOLD though
