Registry Problem

Having problem with my Win 98 machine. On boot the system posts a registry\config error, need to run scanreg. When I try to run at c: prompt, I get "the program is too large for memory". I renamed the two files, autoexec.bat and config.sys to free up the memory, but with no luck. I have tested the RAM and is functional, I assume it it the cache memory that I am needing to run the scanreg. From what I have read, I am to the point of reloading the OS, although if anyone has suggestions, it would be appreciated.

How much free space is left on your hard drive. Is it full? If the swap file is to large (check the size in control panel) you could resize it, but that might affect the system performance depending on how much RAM you have installed. Did you recently resize or create any partitions? Could be the partitions (if any) could be to small. Give us the system specifications and is this a fresh install of Win98 or an Upgrade? Is the FAT (File Allocation Table) FAT 32 or NTFS? More info please.
