glent
Im planning to upgrade my system over the next few months. I can only afford to a new cpu and motherboard, I will have to use my current nvidia 5700 AGP card for a while. My ram is ddr500 so that should be ok ? any ideas, There are so many type of 64bit cpus at the moment
ripken204
how much money you have? a 3200 venice and maybe a dfi nf3 250 since you want to stay with agp which is a horrible choice.
KamiQuazi
@glent:Do u have Intel now or AMD? The RAM speeds want me to think Intel but i could be wrong...
ripken204
ddr500 is just ddr, same as pc4000
KamiQuazi
i haven't seen to many AMD boards that use the DDR 500s... So i was thinking it was more on the line of the Intels... but likewise i could be wrong...

glent
yes I use an amd system, currenty overclocking my mobile 2500+ to 2500mhz (250x10) so the ram is running @ ddr500 or PC4000. Well im thinking that I should save for a pci express vga card then. Im on a tight budget though
KamiQuazi
I have seen DDR 500 but not the boards for them... I would recommend that since the AGP slots are gonna be phasied out soon
ssmokee
Support for memory speeds above ddr 400 were added in the rev E CPUs.http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2469
Weed
yey no dont upgrade to pci-e if u dont have the moneythere isnt a big performance hiti would wait
Thai3g_Eclipse
I'd also suggesting waiting because Socket 1002 (M2) is supposed to be released early next year. It is the new CPU socket interface for AMD CPUs. It'll also give you more time to save up too, so sounds like this might be the best for you. Geforce Dual 6600GT Chip 256MB Graphics Accelerator bundled with GA-K8NXP-SLI motherboardLink to VGA card reviewNow my next question is Sata 2 worth upgraing too? I currently have a 200 Gig and 1 160 gig IDE drives Edited September 28, 2005 by glent
Jonic
I would recommend an upgrade to SATA only if you buy two identic hdd and put them into a raid configuration. This way you will see a noticeable performace boost. And if you do get sata drives, be sure to get a new model that supports NCQ.
KamiQuazi
I have personally used a SATA II drive and yes you do see a performance boost... I installed Windows XP SP2 in 10 minutes (it was not nlited)... so in my opionion it is worth it
