Zxian
Ok... for one, a properly configured XP-SP2 install is no slower than XP-SP0. Disable the security center, disable DEP (unless you have the hardware support for it), and a couple of other small settings, and you're in business. The benefits far outweigh the consquences, and most modern hotfixes won't even install unless you've got SP1. InTheWayBoy
I think you might run into some issues too, as many hotfixes might require SP1, maybe even SP2. I can't verify this, but I seem to remember that being that case sometimes. Also, doesn't WindowsUpdate require at least SP1 now?
boooggy
no wu doesn't need anything. i just tried today. mad a clean install of xp sp0 and wu worked fine.... gave a tones of hotfixes....
Zxian
You get a ton of hotfixes, yes, but they're all Pre-SP2. XP-SP0 is no longer supported, meaning that no hotfixes will be released for any vulnerabilities found on XP without SP1 or SP2.
Davor
Also, doesn't WindowsUpdate require at least SP1 now?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>what boooggy said is true, what you probably ment is what Microsoft put on their WU site a few months ago, and that is that support for XP SP0 (or was it SP1, can't remember, although am pretty sure it was SP0) will stop. This means that there will not be any 'hotfixes' for XPSP0, only for higher builds.GreetsDavor
InTheWayBoy
I see...so you can still use WU, but it won't show new updates as they are built for SP1 and above. Makes sense.
