Boo Boo

Hey, Xperties asked me to let everyone know, he won't be around for a couple weeks. He made a bit of a boo boo. He flashed his bios and killed his motherboard. So unless anyone knows how to recover the motherboard, he has to wait to purchase a new one. His apologies for being unavailable to the board.

borrow a chip of a buddy who has the same make of bios and type of chip. boot the pc then pause it, whack in the floppy, swap bios chip.. somethinglike that. or theres a guy in the neatherlands who will do it for you for about $1.50 but then you will have to wait about 5 weeks for your chip to go and come back!

just buy a new chip, they only cost a few bux, dont buy a new mobo!

Reason why im a bit unsure on how you reflash it is ive never been dumb enough to screw it up! :)

go look on your motherboard manufactures website they should sell you a chip replacement for very cheap unlike some of the rip off companys that specialize in selling bios chips for other people motherboards.

Most BIOS's have a backup one to allow you to flash no matter what; for AMI ones its this:

1.Power down the system.

2.Copy the latest ROM file from the appropriate and latest BIOS diskette onto a bootable diskette.

3.Rename the ROM file to NEWBIOS.ROM, and insert the diskette in the notebook.

4.Attach an external keyboard.

5.Press and hold the <Ctrl>-<Home> keys.

6.Power up the system and continue to hold <Ctrl>-<Home>.

7.There will be no video, this is normal.

8.Wait until you hear diskette activity and release &<Ctrl>-<Home> keys.

9.System will beep at the end of bootblock and the system will reboot.

10.The system should boot normally now. (i.e.. press F1 to set CMOS defaults)

11.Next power down you can remove the external keyboard.
