That list is just a cache, a list of icons Windows saw recently. I would suggest going to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify

and deleting (or renaming) these two values:

IconStreams

PastIconsStream

(If they are corrupted, there's nothing to lose, so I would delete.)

Windows will rebuild the list eventually.

well i deleted the two..

restarted..

repeated this a few times...

even have ccleaner do it.. but still nothing...

no icons or anything...

the ones that were set to be hidden before are hidden...

but some of the newer programs running i have to wait for them to hide since the list is still empty..

are there any other places i may be able to gain access to this list?

Like I said, the list is just a cache. Take for example the Volume icon in Windows. If it shows in the tray when you login, then it should be automatically added to that cache list with the default setting "Hide when inactive". Windows SHOULD rebuild the list like this, adding one program at a time as the programs add their icons to the tray. At what step is Windows failing in this?
