RIS does not work with Nforce3 NIC ?

Recommended Posts

installation on winXP not supported : drivers for your network card not found

Same issue here....I can't get the Nforce2 NIC working under RIS.

Tried several drivers and all sub packages.

Also tried BST-Driverpacks and manual installation

( same method as described above but with a line in the winnt.sif,

directing it to the $OEM$\Drivers\lan\Nforce folder ).

Nothing seems to work.....

I guess that

- Or I overlook something critical.

- Or Nvidia does noet really support booting from RIS with their drivers.

makes me wonder why my Abit MoBo is PXE bootable....

( ABit NF7 Board with nForce2 )

It should be able to work......right?

Someone more lucky than us?

Actually, this DOES work fro me with nForce2 MBs. (ASUS A7N8X)

But it DOES NOT work with nForce3 MBs. (ASUS K8N)

So you should be able to boot on RIS with your MB following the normal procedure (the one from Microsoft's web site).

The difference with nForce3 (and nForce4) MBs is that these latest network card need the "NVidia Network Bus Enumerator" driver to be loaded before the network cards can be detected.

I haven't found a way to load this enumerator during textmode yet... :(

Ok, you got it working:)

Please explain :

- NForce driver version and which *.inf and *.sys files did you use?

Could you tell us from which dir?

- The root of the driver?

- NAM folder?

- PreNRM folder?

- What method did you use? Only the M$ method?

- Anyone experience with BTS Driverpacks RIS?

- Anyone experience with BTS Driverpacks and Nforce RIS

I used the latest Unified drivers from nvidia's website.

I used the drivers from the root of the ethernet folder.

Yes, only this one. It worked like a charm.

Hmm....Are you sure you did no extra actions?

I did as you described, but it does not work overhere.

I keep getting the error that no driver was found for my NForce 2 NIC after a succesfull boot from PXE:(

I' m getting out of options here...I have build many images for a succesfull RIS

installation but this NForce is giving me aheadace:(

Well...

I've got to think about this, but I really can't think of anything special.

I copied all the driver files to $OEM$\$1\Drivers\NIC and to \I386, then I added the search path in the rissetup.sif (or whatever its name, I can't remember right now), and that was it.

I'll give it another try on an A7N8X tomorrox, but I think that's about it.

@VATERNL : Well, I checked again, and I really don't see anything special. You should be aware that Microsoft's artivle is not the most precise. There are other step-by-step guides about adding NICs to RIS that are better written. You can check this one, I found it very useful.

Otherwise, I am in contact with Asus support, but nothing of interest yet. The latest mail was :

I think that the difference between nForce2 MCP controller and nForce3 (or nForce4) MCP

controller, is that the nForce3 and 4 are only exposed through the nVidia Network Bus Enumerator.

The nForce2 can be seen by the OS without an additional driver.

This driver is nvnetbus.inf.

That would be very good if there was a way to integrate both drivers (nvnetbus and ethernet driver)

into one.

Yes . the NF3 and NF4 MCP lan are all based on network bridge emulator .

so only after you installed the chipset driver (which contains lan bridge drive) ,

the system can recognize that MCP lan , i forgot it .

Hum... I don't call that a support answer, but I keep trying with them...

OK, I think my search is over... :

Yes, so what is the solution for RIS installation to work ?

What is the point of having a PXE capable motherboard if there are no suitable drivers for SMB mode ?

seems you need add a normal PCI lan card ,like RTL8139 .

If you want a new board ,you'd better purchase a board which has a add-on lan controller ,not from the motherboard southbirdge controller

not sure if this is possible and I cant remember where you do it, but using the same methods that you would to add scsi/sata raid controller drivers (text mode setup files) can you not add the chipset drivers in at that level, exposing the NIC? Actually, it probably looks for the NIC before it looks for SCSI/RAID controller drivers tbh

I don't think so, because I believe that the SATA/SCSI driver integration is very specific to those devices.

BUT, I have found the RIS drivers for NForce3/4 !!!!! :D:thumbup

It's not enough though : I have to wait for Asus to release a PXE ROM update, so that the K8N works with RIS.

I have to thank a very nice guy for that ! He posted a post on a Microsoft forum about RIS and NForce 4, so my eye was catched. I answered my post and gave me all the informations I needed t ofind the drivers !

I could post them if someone here was interested !

You're welcome. Thought your nickname looked familiar, Bingo. :)

I'm always willing to help over here too. There's a lot of useful information I have been able to get from here, so if I can do something back...

Jopster aka Jos :)

p.s. be careful on posting the drivers. They're under NDA. :)

Lol, it looks like the net IS a village, after all ;)

Is that so risky ?

I mean, if well known portals publish them, what is the problem if I put them on my personnal ftp server ?

Anyway, I might just point the guy who need them to the right place. If I got lucky while browsing, anybody could... :)
