XL-DJK
I have a query, so here goes:In Startmenu, where listed Search, Run, Set Program Access and Defaults, Control Panel, etc. I'd like to eliminate the Menu Handler for My Computer and just add links to my Hard Disks, where the red circles would be Icons. How do I do this? I'm not quite sure what REG to create... any help? Edited August 20, 2005 by XL-DJK95355
agonified
Instead, one can create a shortcut to desired folder/drive and directly put it into quicklaunch with desired icon...
XL-DJK
The thought was more of a cosmetic look, to be honest.
MHz
You can drag'n'Drop the drives into your pinned list and then hide My Computer within the Startmenu properties.

Have a look at the diagram again.........and yes, I'm aware of putting shortcuts to the QuickLaunch, Desktop, pinning on Startmenu, the idea is COSMETIC and USEFULL.....just a TWEAK idea

Yzöwl
As a quick and dirty solution you could replace My Pictures and /or My Music with your own locations and then show them on the Start Menu.just replace the paths inHKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\My MusicHKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\My Musicand /orHKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\My PicturesHKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\My Picturesremembering that the 'User Shell Folder' keys are REG_EXPAND_SZ
XL-DJK
Awesome, what about creating NEW ones? like "My C: Drive" etc. under the originals?
gregD
I've only ever been able to add one. Using a key that is not used regularly, I created "My Video's". Problem is, its below the other ones. Can't place it where you want. Can't recall where I got this from, apologies...Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f6-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}]@="My Movies""InfoTip"="Movies"[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f6-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}\DefaultIcon]@="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\Icons\\Hardware\\projector.ico"[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f6-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}\InProcServer32]@=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,74,00,25,\ 00,5c,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,73,00,68,00,\ 64,00,6f,00,63,00,76,00,77,00,2e,00,64,00,6c,00,6c,00,00,00"ThreadingModel"="Apartment"[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f6-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}\Instance]"CLSID"="{3f454f0e-42ae-4d7c-8ea3-328250d6e272}"[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f6-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}\Instance\InitPropertyBag]"CLSID"="{13709620-C279-11CE-A49E-444553540000}""method"="ShellExecute""Command"="My Movies""Param1"="D:\\Movies"[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f6-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}\shellex][HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f6-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers][HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f6-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{2559a1f6-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}]@=""[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f6-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}\shellex\MayChangeDefaultMenu]@=""[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f6-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}\ShellFolder]"Attributes"=dword:00000000Naturally, you'd have to change the values accordingly.Save the above as a .reg file, and import it into your registry. As shown here...
