why do u guys use such big hdd's ?

Recommended Posts

i was just wondering, why do people get such big hard drives? anything over 40 gigs sounds like an overkill to me. the only reasons i can think of having a big hard drives is if u download alot of crap like movies/music, use virtual drives/cds, video editing, and programming. i only use like 15 gigs of my hdd out of 40.

1.how big is ur hdd?

2.how much of it do u actually use?

3.what do u use it for?

1)I have two drives 4+20 Gigs..............

2) both of them have a lot of empty space(2.35gb & 7.34gb respectively)

3)regarding wot i use them for.....on the 4gb drive i have all the s/w installations n the 20gb drive is all data(music,movies if any,C++ programmes,games etc)

Actually anything that's possible on such an ancient machine(literally.... its a P2 333Mhz) n a slow internet connection to go with it.

How can anyone live on a 40gb?

I don't download too many movies or games because I'm not a big gamer, but I used to have to reformat each month because it was the only possible way to get more than 1gb of my hard drive back. When ever I manually cleaned it I kept almost all of the stuff.

I have a 160gb

As of now, I only have 20gb left.

Applications, RPG Maker XP, Huge Photoshop projects, Vectors, SuSE, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and music.

Another reason is so I can have huge amounts of virtual memory and page files.

I have a seperate partition at the beginning of the drive that takes 5 gigabytes. I share that between XP and VI (Vista) but I have another 5gb for the Linux Swap.

For most people, its for all the p***... :P

I have HDs of all sizes... The main ones I use are 20GB, 40GB, 60GB, 80GB, and 160GB! ;)

I use them all... They fill up pretty quick! ;)

I use them for music, videos, games, pics, etc... ;)

I have two HD, 200 GB each.

That sounds like a lot (an actually it is...), but somehow I manage to have 350 Gb taken.. ;)

It's funny... about five years ago, I bought a 10,3 GB hard drive and then I thought it was immense and that I would never be able to use all that space..

Times sure have changed... :)

Well, they tends to get filled up regardless the capacity....I have 4 x 250, 1 x 160, 1 x 80...but only 55gb free space now....

What I have on it is mostly movies, I'm a Documentary-freak and most of it is scientific oriented....also quite a few homemade movies.(no, not porn..aviation ;)).

I keep all of it in DVD format rather than burning them, so my hd's tends to fill up pretty quick..

Moives, TONS of music, music vids... I have about 35 xbox games backed up at between 1-5gb/each so thats most of my space!

As soon as you start to make ISO images, you're screwed!

I have a 300Gb at work with around 100Gb of ISO and 100Gb of unattended material (with a lot of backups)

I am not even downloading films, music or games!
